I dunno if this counts as being in the national media, but last season on Orphan Black (BBC America), BCBS's headquarters building in Aksarben Village was used as a stand-in for a research facility in a fictional town of "Tisdale" for a quick shot.

Great stories for the city of Omaha....thanks for posting Coyote.
Re: Omaha ALL OVER national media lately
AWESOME article about Omaha. I know this might irritate people in the forum, but the fact remains that many people on the west coast view places like Nebraska as bastions of uneducated and intolerant people who are archaic in their ways of thinking. I really hope this story gets traction and enlightens people to how complicated, strategic, and slow the progressive changes are occurring in Omaha and other places like it.

Visit Omaha tourism group hopes to make 'big splash' with Minneapolis light rail ads
A local tourism group has wrapped a Minneapolis light rail train with ads touting Omaha as a great spot for a weekend getaway.
The train-size ads feature jumbo photos of such Omaha attractions as the College World Series and the Lied Jungle at the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. The ads cover a train that runs from Mall of America to U.S. Bank Stadium, where the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots will play Feb. 4.
The train ads cost $50,000. Ward said her group did not have to pay a premium price, even though the ads will be on the train for the Super Bowl.
The ads, which debuted Jan. 10 and will run through April 29, are part of Visit Omaha's "52 Weekends" advertising campaign promoting the city as a year-round destination.

Bad news. Omaha is second worst in percentage of restaurants that are chains, according to Slate.

Pretty sure if it showed more cities, Des Moines would be on that list as well.

I didn't hear the show, but I did notice the date line just said Omaha, with no NE. This was good to see. Is that what they mentioned?Coyote wrote:Grow Omaha brought up something unique about this story from the NYT:

I find this actually something interesting to read. This site ranks Omaha the 33rd best place to live in the US. The most interesting, is reading through the 885 reviews people have submitted about living in and life in Omaha..

Re: Omaha ALL OVER national media lately
There was a nice, front page of the Sunday (June 10) Sports section write up in the NYT about the often lonely life of the guys who call professional baseball games, and their dreams of making it to the big leagues. The gentleman who’s story was the basis of the article apparently now calls games for the Storm Chasers. There were three of four color photos of Omaha in the article, including a near half page photo of the scoreboard and outfield of Werner Park. The park was described in glowing, almost big league terms.

“Hey! Lucas, right?” I heard a voice as I walked around the Gifford Park Neighborhood Market, a compact but lively farmers’ market that was a quick walk from the room I was renting on Cass Street in Omaha.
The voice belonged to Alex O’Hanlon, whom I’d met just a couple of days earlier at a donation-based fermentation workshop she had led at City Sprouts, a local organization with a large community garden that promotes health and seeks to improve food quality in the community. Alex and I chatted, and I shared some tamales I’d bought from a market vendor. Remembering my name and saying hello was maybe a small gesture for Alex, but as an out-of-towner, I was impressed.
But I wasn’t really surprised that the locals were friendly in Omaha, the biggest city in Nebraska, located about halfway between Sioux Falls, S.D., and Kansas City, Mo. What surprised me during a recent four-day trip was how big the city seemed. I’m not talking about surface area: Omaha, in addition to its famous zoo, has a progressive sensibility that places its good restaurants, live-music scene and diverse entertainment options on par with cities many times its size. And it’s worth a visit for any curious traveler who, like me, is keen on saving money.
Re: Omaha ALL OVER national media lately
What an excellent piece. Very flattering take on the city.
Re: Omaha ALL OVER national media lately
Great article. But did anybody else find "about halfway between Sioux Falls, SD and Kansas City, MO" to be a weird reference point? As if anybody reading the New York Times is thinking, "Where's Omaha? Oh yeah, half way between Sioux Falls and Kansas City."
Re: Omaha ALL OVER national media lately
Yeah, I found that to be a little odd. To me, more people would not know where Sioux Falls is than knowing where Omaha is. Otherwise, great publicity for the City.

But now that all the New Yorkers know about the Alpine Inn, I am going to have to find a different dive biker bar/diner to hang out in. Maybe the Longhorn in FtC?Omaha Cowboy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 12:33 pmLol, agreed. I found it a bit odd as well..

Re: Omaha ALL OVER national media lately
hahaha!! Agreed, I don't think many New Yorkers know where Sioux Falls is.
I usually tell people Omaha is between Denver and Chicago. And if they don't know where Denver is, I tell them 500 miles west of Chicago.

I think this is a pretty good campaign. It’s tongue in cheek and it’s clearly brought a lot of publicity already. Our other campaigns really haven’t helped much in my opinion.Wrightfan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 5:36 pm FWIW:

In Chicago the Michigan board of tourism pushed Pure Michigan super hard. They showed some fairly pretty places, but for the most part it just looked like stuff old people would be in to. I wasn’t sold. Same here in Missouri in the campaign to visit Branson. Bleh. This though, the humor would be enticing to me personally.
