Lol. I had a feeling that wouldn't go over well, but I think it's an indication where I'm not overly excited about the discussion, either. Overall, the snarky, out-of-place political bashing above, was uncalled for, so I figured I'd point out that many predominantly conservative states and cities, are doing very well, even considering the economy.

Thanks for pointing me there.  Normally, I avoid comments as the stuff I read is political and the wingnuts that screw to the left and the wingnuts that screw to the right just defecate on each other.  These were hilarious.  One poor guy tries to clarify a point in the story and 30 people go off on him/each other.

Nice Friday treat.

The rash of shootings was in the lead bar on CNN.com

You mean The Sideboob Gazette?

It was on the front page of CNN.com this morning, too.

I think we need to commission another study and some more inner city grants. That'll solve that problem.

And all of the guests from out of town who are in for the CWS tuned in to the local news on Sunday and were greeted with reports of, depending on which station, 4-5-6 or so shootings!

Embarrassing as he!! for Omaha! :(

On CNN, they treated the shootings in South Omaha on and around Dahlman Ave as separate shootings. They were all done by the same guy who was walking around several blocks shooting random people. They also tried to say one of his targets was shot 'across town.'

I'm not sure if they are clueless about the distance of the shootings, have a different definition of what 'across town' means, or if they are purposely make it sound like they are spread out further than they were for whatever reason. I didn't particularly like how they reported on it.

But yes, it is quite a shame that this happened during the CWS, and a shame that it had to happen at all.

It's pretty sad.  One of the reasons the only news I usually trust comes from NRP.

NPR, you mean? Anyway, they haven't been without their own bias scandals, either. Hard to trust any source, really.

I guess as long as you aren't getting your news from Chris Mathews or Rush Limbaugh, you are on the right track.

I only trust news if it comes from S33, the fortune tea leaves I read, or as a last resort... Brad.

The rest I just don't believe at all, especially CNN and Al Jazeera.

So, no complaints from here, but guess what? "Cold Omaha'' doesn't exactly work as a source of ridicule these days.

Folks tell me there are all kinds of people walking around Omaha with all kinds of money, thanks to an affiliation with Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. It's also a booming agriculture and food center.

The way Omaha has been spending money on facilities indicates a population of folks willing to invest in the excitement that significant sports can bring.

New Orleans vs. Omaha: Can we mimic its Midwestern economic vitality here?

http://thelensnola.org/2013/07/09/new-o ... lity-here/
Despite the Federal Flood and the BP oil spill, New Orleans is still a desirable tourist destination. It has cultural wealth, upon which the hospitality industry feasts. But tourism is not a long-term solution to New Orleans’ chronic economic malaise. That’s why I think it’s less flattering, but perhaps more sobering, to imagine New Orleans as a “lesser Omaha” rather than vice versa.

That is an interesting article.  I find way more differences than similarities between NOLA and Omaha.  Tourism is everything to NOLA.  Their culture is fantastic.  The restaurants amazing.  The music scene and festivals are world renowned.  And except for summer, the weather is pretty good.  However the poverty rate, and crime rate, is awful.  It is one of the few American cities I could not picture myself living in.  But I absolutely love to visit every chance I can.
NOLA is built for the tourists to enjoy.  Omaha is built for the residents to enjoy.

Spot on observations.  For tourists New Orleans is amazing.  The food, the music, the atmosphere, the people...all outstanding.

Yep.  It has been like that since I was a kid.  This town works when it focuses on things that make a couple with a couple of kids have a better life.  When we stray from that, we fail.

It's not honey boo boo and real housewives of Omaha never made it past the pilot.... guess this will do. haha!

New reality show 'Obsessed With the Dress' takes place at Omaha's Winning Crown Boutique
It also serves as a metaphor for the types of characters the WE television network tries to portray in its reality lineup, which currently includes “Bridezillas,” “Pregnant and Dating,” “L.A. Hair” and, as of Friday at 9 p.m., the new reality show set at Omaha's Winning Crown Boutique.

Maybe you missed this Omaha reality based TV show that has ran/runs on HDNET that is now AXS.TV

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2057858/

The Super

This follows a Superintendent for Landmark Realty as he works with Tenants at some of Omaha's less desirable apartments.  Has ran two season so far.  I have watched a few just to witness the train wreck.  I think you can get full episodes at the network web site.

The Super is the best late night come home from the bar and find 4 episodes on your DVR to keep drinking to show in the world. My roommate and I have introduced to many people by just always having it on the DVR.

Ole Dino is also one of the landlord suing the City for enforcing the property maintenance code.  Sounds like more piling on.

I wasnt aware of the show, I might check it out just to see Omaha.  I like the Worlds Worst Tenants show.  Dude ought to shave off the pony nub thing though.
