Lol. I had a feeling that wouldn't go over well, but I think it's an indication where I'm not overly excited about the discussion, either. Overall, the snarky, out-of-place political bashing above, was uncalled for, so I figured I'd point out that many predominantly conservative states and cities, are doing very well, even considering the economy.cdub wrote:

Thanks for pointing me there. Â Normally, I avoid comments as the stuff I read is political and the wingnuts that screw to the left and the wingnuts that screw to the right just defecate on each other. Â These were hilarious. On CNN, they treated the shootings in South Omaha on and around Dahlman Ave as separate shootings. They were all done by the same guy who was walking around several blocks shooting random people. They also tried to say one of his targets was shot 'across town.'
I'm not sure if they are clueless about the distance of the shootings, have a different definition of what 'across town' means, or if they are purposely make it sound like they are spread out further than they were for whatever reason. I didn't particularly like how they reported on it.
But yes, it is quite a shame that this happened during the CWS, and a shame that it had to happen at all.

And all of the guests from out of town who are in for the CWS tuned in to the local news on Sunday and were greeted with reports of, depending on which station, 4-5-6 or so shootings!
Embarrassing as he!! for Omaha!

So, no complaints from here, but guess what? "Cold Omaha'' doesn't exactly work as a source of ridicule these days.
Folks tell me there are all kinds of people walking around Omaha with all kinds of money, thanks to an affiliation with Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. It's also a booming agriculture and food center.
The way Omaha has been spending money on facilities indicates a population of folks willing to invest in the excitement that significant sports can bring.

New Orleans vs. Omaha: Can we mimic its Midwestern economic vitality here?
http://thelensnola.org/2013/07/09/new-o ... lity-here/
http://thelensnola.org/2013/07/09/new-o ... lity-here/
Despite the Federal Flood and the BP oil spill, New Orleans is still a desirable tourist destination. It has cultural wealth, upon which the hospitality industry feasts. But tourism is not a long-term solution to New Orleans’ chronic economic malaise. That’s why I think it’s less flattering, but perhaps more sobering, to imagine New Orleans as a “lesser Omaha” rather than vice versa.

That is an interesting article. Â I find way more differences than similarities between NOLA and Omaha. Â Tourism is everything to NOLA. Â Their culture is fantastic. Â The restaurants amazing. Â The music scene and festivals are world renowned. Â And except for summer, the weather is pretty good. Â However the poverty rate, and crime rate, is awful. Â It is one of the few American cities I could not picture myself living in. Â But I absolutely love to visit every chance I can.
NOLA is built for the tourists to enjoy. Â Omaha is built for the residents to enjoy.

Yep. Â It has been like that since I was a kid. Â This town works when it focuses on things that make a couple with a couple of kids have a better life.
