I do think it funny that WOWT is completely rudderless during this storm.  Jim Flowers and Rusty Lord are off the air.
Usually Jim Flowers was the one calling for the Big Snow and the National Weather Servcice would be more conservative.

This morning, WOWT was still saying 6+ with the middle of the heavy band off to the south like they have for a day now, but The National Weather Service has us right in the middle of the 6"-10" band after starting with lower amounts.

Of the three so-called majors, I have the least confidence in WOWT, weather or general news reporting. It seems incredibly watered down. Very little hard news in their programs. I can listen to their report (I sometimes have it on at 4:00pm) and think "What did we learn on the show tonight ...?" and the answer is almost nothing!

I wouldn't be surprised if Mike McKnight goes dumpster diving under the cover of darkness to try and find material for his next story.

I think the props are to distract you from the fact they have a "technical difficulty" every 10 seconds!  Put away the props and get some real equipment.

Also, the dry erase board may have been cool for one election 8 years ago, but the guy that did that is dead and the board is tired and play.  Move on.

Got ya.  Ross used the wite board and flip chart all the time too.

In the Newseum in Washington DC they they have Tim Russets office recreated with everything the way it was the day he died.  All is supposed to be the exact actual items there at on that day.  It is really a pretty cool display.

If you ever are in DC go to the Newseum, it is one of my favorite places to see.

A friend told me last night that Flowers name may or may not have come up in the massage parlor/prostitution sting earlier this year.  Probably just a rumor.

Pretty sure it's true. Pretty sure it's also true that the FBI had to take the investigation because there were so many OPD officers involed, too. By "involved", you know what I mean.  Again, allegedly.

We need someone with the experience and know how to spearhead this investigation, someone like Mort Sullivan.

I giggled a little.

Anyway, the whole Jim Flowers thing upset me off.

If you think about it, someone wants to have sex - another person is willing to have sex - for a price. And, some dickhead(s) in the state legislature decide that they have some skin in the game with that, and chose to criminalize the transaction instead of tax it.

I don't want to live on this planet.

Channel 6 is an absolute Train Wreck tonight!!!  They tried to play a story and it didn't work so they went to a commercial.  Came back from the commercial and tried another story, it didn't work either so they went back to another commercial, which didn't work either.

But the biggest joke of the night.  They did a story about airport delays and showed an old military prop plane!

Their parent company needs to fire everyone involved with any process at WOWT and begin anew.

Some would wonder if its not the Parent Company that's causing it?

Quite possible.   One would need to watch a Gray Television station from another market and see if they have the same technical disaster that WOWT does.

I can attest that the news at the sister station in Grand Junction, complete with "Web Channel", is just as bad.

Haven't watched other stations knowingly.  I did take a peek at the Gray corporate site & they are happy to report great earnings.  The stock is in the tank but record earnings.  They clearly aren't wasting any money on talent or tech needs.  Great job management!

When we were in Omaha a week ago just for fun I turned on the channel 6 news.  After 2 minute I HAD to turn off the tv & wash.

Generally speaking (not specifically singling out WOWT), I have found that in some much smaller markets the quality and production of the broadcast was noticeably better than Omaha's stations.

My wife has been interviewed at channel 6.  She tells me that they have preset cameras and once you are seated, there are no more production people on the floor.   Just you and a remote control TV camera.   Struck her as odd.   Cant say much about channel 6, other than they realize that 7 has pulled so far away and 3 and 42 seem stuck in the mud,so they can do nothing new and bleed the #2 station for as much revenue as they can for as long as they can.

WOWT had this on their facebook page early this AM
WOWT has informed Jim Flowers that it does not intend to enter into a new agreement for his services when his current agreement expires on December 31, 2012. WOWT appreciates Jim’s contributions to WOWT and thanks him for his many years of service.

This was Flowers' (or his attorney's) response to the news in the comments.

I almost wish the salacious rumors about Jim were true.  It would add a little bit more color to local TV media personalities.  Color that used to permeate local media personalities 25 years ago and earlier.

I imagine Jim is like Ron Burgundy, sitting in a bar watching the weather forecast, lamenting his wretched fate.

The "he's on vacation" response seemed odd.   Why would any reputable business allow rumors (true or not) build up for as long as it did and not just say the man is not returning to the air.   Poor HR and PR decision to say the least.    If it was in fact contract / salary related, the next to go is likely John Knicely, he has to have the highest pay now that Flowers is gone.

Yeah, former police chief Alex Hays seems to be in the mix now, too. Make it official or squash the rumors already.

by making prostitution illegal the state has made the industry exponentially more exploitative, dehumanizing sex workers (making them even more likely to be victims of violence) and inserted itself into areas of human existence which no system of laws has the right to go.  In much the same way that drug prohibitionists have a good deal of moral culpability for thousands of murders in Central America, those who clutch their pearls and insist that prostitution must continue to be illegal have, to some degree, the countless rapes of sex workers, murders of sex workers, and pimp exploitation to show for their busy-bodyness.

There's always a quid-pro-quo for sex, so I don't know why 'prostitution' is held to a different standard. For example, I once knew a young lady who required a nice dinner and some drinks before you could complete the transaction.

One girl I knew would exchange intercourse for the right to ring and text your phone every 15 seconds thereafter.

Another girl I knew required that you drive, at least, a $60,000 dollar vehicle before she would exchange her goods and services.

Tax that, gubment.

Yep.  The Donna Meyer vs Mike May and the Carol Scott vs Donna Meyer weather fights used to much more entertaining than the new crop of fembot blonde news reader of today.
