Hopefully they will fix up the lighthouse. It looked kinda seedy the last time I went that way.

Will not take much to head in that direction.  Will not let my kids go there and I know others that are the same way.

Linoma Beach Set For Makeover

http://www.ketv.com/news/24746752/detail.html
www.ketv.com wrote:A group of investors bought Linoma Beach for less than $1 million on Friday, vowing to return the once-shining summer hot spot to its glory days.
www.ketv.com wrote:"The first thing we want to do is enhance what is here for the people who have paid good money to have a location here," he said.

About 130 campers occupy the camping spots. Once they depart in October, their work begins, Niemeyer said.

He said the lighthouse will be restored and concerts will return to the beach.

"There's a strong feasibility for those people who ate the best lobster in Nebraska that the Linoma Beach restaurant will be back open someday," Niemeyer said.

Linoma Beach has such potential.  I hope this new plan works out and it becomes a destination place like it once was.

New life for Linoma Beach
Erin Golden WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:Brook Dill has big plans for the Linoma Beach Bar. He's got a small outdoor grill, a couple of part-time workers and a menu full of summertime food: cheeseburgers, brats, corn on the cob. He imagines serving crowds of families and teens that turn out to cool off in the water on hot days. He plans to open a tiki bar, host elaborate dinners on the beach and turn the bar's upstairs apartment into a VIP lounge for regular customers.

I was going to mention this. There are signs around there with a save the lighthouse.org or something signs I hadn't seen two weeks ago. And there were lift machines there on Saturday, seems like they are working on it.

Linoma lighthouse restoration begins
The foundation received enough donations to begin work on the exterior last week, according to Straight. He said it will take 30 to 60 days to complete the first phase of the project, which will focus on the exterior paneling between the observation decks on the second and ninth floors.

They came up with the name “Linoma” because the property sits at a midway point between Lincoln and Omaha.
Interesting tidbit. I never realized Linoma was a combination of Lincoln and Omaha.

Did you know the transport service "OmaLink" was also a combo of the two?  :)

Above U.S. 6, new life for old lighthouse

PETER SALTER: Lincoln Journal Star wrote:This summer, they tore off the old boards — some of them quarter-inch interior plywood, no match for Nebraska weather — and found a supplier to donate weatherproof, water-tight sheeting. Then they started covering it all with concrete siding. The new panels turned the lighthouse green this month, and now tan, but that’s only temporary. Soon, they’ll paint it all bright white and install new 4-foot black letters, also donated, that have spelled out Linoma to passing motorists for three-quarters of a centur.

For years, its first floor — made with rock and ringed with windows — housed a gas station. The second floor still has a toilet, and may have been used for overnight stays. The other eight floors were plumbed, though it’s not clear whether they were rented, too.

I had never actually heard of OmaLink. But that one is certainly more obvious.
