2013 Bald Eagle Thread

Post by Brad »

Drove around over the weekend and saw a lot of Bald Eagles!

At least 10-15 at Manawa
Saw one north east of Council Bluffs
Saw one flying over the River near the Botanical Gardens.

Also heard there are over 100 at DeSoto Bend.

Here is one from Manawa:

Nice shot Brad!  A weekend ago, there were around 40-50 eagles just sitting on the ice at Manawa, plus another 10 or more in the trees.  I heard there were upwards of 200 at DeSoto Bend.  There's at least a couple on the east side of Council Bluffs as well.

Eagles, raptors fly through Hitchcock Nature Center
Birds use hills around center as protection from wind

KETV wrote:North America’s most iconic birds are on their way south, and one of the best viewing areas is a short drive from Omaha.
As bald eagles make their way south by way of the river, they use hills around the Hitchcock Nature Center as protection from the wind
In 2012, bird watchers recorded more than 1,000 bald eagles migrating through the area and more than 10,000 raptors.
