The Nebraska State Fair has announced a new $5.4 million building that will provide exhibition space and headquarters for the State Fair staff.
Executive Director Joseph McDermott said the new Nebraska Building is “the final piece of the original Nebraska State Fair building complex plan.” Construction will begin within 30 days and is to be completed by Jan. 1, 2014.
He said the majority of the cost will be financed by locally owned Nebraska banks.
“The Nebraska State Fair has experienced a shortage of exhibition space, with an unprecedented exhibitor waiting list since 2010,” McDermott said. “This will open up approximately 23,000 square feet of additional space in the Exhibition Building for commercial exhibitors and sponsors.”
McDermott said the new building represents continued growth for the fair, which has drawn nearly 1 million visitors since moving to Grand Island in 2010.
The Nebraska Building will allow the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s return to the fair, McDermott said.
