When fortune smiles on something as violent and ugly as revenge, it seems proof like no other that not only does God exist, you're doing his will.

It was located in the general area of 48th and Highway 36, by the Omaha Home for Boys Farm. Â You can see a small monument along the east side of the road. Â Supposedly, some foundation stone was still there.
The name of the settlement on the mouth of the little papio escapes me, but it was the other settlement that was shut down to condense everything at Winter Quarters.

Lancaster to Lincoln.
The story of vengance for losing the state capitol from Omaha.
The state was divided by the Platte in terms of population (with most living south of the Platte.) Â Most were democrats, and Lancaster was their home base (San Francisco on the plains). Â They had the votes to move the capitol, but not enough to block a philabuster, or other tricks. Â Omaha knew they wanted a peaceful move. Â Their price was that the city had to change it's name to honor the recently assassinated and still hated by the democrats, Lincoln.
So greedy for the capitol, they swallowed their pride and renamed their town after their hated late president.
Amazing what people will do for a speck of power.

"Cutler's Park Marker"
Located at Young St. & Mormon Bridge Rd
Cutler's Park-
Nebraska's First City
The first city in Nebraska, Cutler's
Park, was founded here in August
1846 by 2500 members of The
Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints (Mormons) who
were enroute to the Rocky
Mountains. This settlement
became the headquarter camp of
the Church and covered both
sides of the modern day Mormon
Bridge Road. Although comprised
of only tents and wagons arranged
in orderly squares, the short-lived
community had a mayor and city
council, 24 policemen and
fireguards, various administrative
committees, and a town square for
public meetings. In mid-August
the settlers adopted the territory's
first anti-pollution and fire
ordnance - a regulation banning
open burning.
In September 1846, the camp began
moving to Winter Quarters three
miles northeast. When the last
members of Cutler's Park moved in
December, they left behind fenced
areas, an improved communal
spring, and about 800 tons of hay
that would help supply the next
group of pioneers on their journey
west the following year.
