I have never heard of this area, but after this weekend, its on my Nebraska Bucket List. Â Over the past couple of years, I have got to know Mark Davis from the OWH. Â He is one of their photographers and also their outdoors guy. Â Friday before the UNO Hockey game we sat in the media room at the clink and he showed me a bunch of photos from Crescent Lake and gave me a background story about the lakes. Â It seems like an amazing place!
Mark Davis / World-Herald Photographer and staff writer wrote:The refuge is remote, located about 30 miles south of Alliance and 28 miles north of Oshkosh, and accessible only by one-lane roads in both directions.
At times the roads are impassible due to weather. At other times the roads are clogged with tumbleweeds or cattle in the open range areas, making travel slow.
“I tell people it's God's country, because most of the time there is nobody out here but me and God,” said Marlin French, a wildlife biologist who has lived and worked at the refuge since 1994.
I did a photo shoot out there years ago, really cool place, and yes, my Honda Civic could only take me on a few of those roads... Part of my Sandhill tours back when...
