Nebraska Tourism Commission closer to replacing 'The Good Life' slogan

The Nebraska Tourism Commission is in the final stages of a study to come up with a new state slogan and symbol to better promote and “brand” the state for visitors

Paul Hammel / World-Herald Bureau wrote:
The commission's study, expected to be finished in time for the 2014 tourism season, would also replace old tourism slogans like “Possibilities ... Endless” and the unofficial state symbol, which has been a Conestoga wagon, according to Kathy McKillip, the executive director of the commission.

Looks like we will find out on 5/1/2014

I actually really like the 'Good Life' slogan. But I am happy they are replacing covered wagon. I don't think something that symbolizes people passing through the state to get to bigger and better places serves as a good symbol. It says more 'Pass through Nebraska!' than 'Come stay in Nebraska!'

Nothing these days depicts a 'Fly-Over' state better than a Conestoga wagon.

A portrait of Warren Buffett?

In all seriousness, they could still go with a silhouette of Chimney Rock which could be a symbol of lofty aspirations or being an example for the rest of the country or something like that, or maybe a the Sandhill Crane for flight and grace. Also, they could use the 'Golden Sower' on the top of the state capitol.

Either way, I would like the image of Nebraska to shift away from being a backwater, fly-over state full of cowboys and Indians and covered wagons.

Keep The Good Life. I don't care if the wagon goes, I like putting the state capitol out front for the state. It is our most iconic structure.

Why is this even an issue?? More people will come and think Nebraska is neat if it has more things that people enjoy doing. Just because they change the State slogan doesn't mean people will all the sudden see Nebraska in a different.. more 'hip' way??

I might care if there were indications of what it will be replaced with.

Slogans I wouldn't recommend:

Nebraska - Come steal our 420 mile marker sign
Nebraska - We really have electricity
Nebraska - Land of Contrails
Nebraska - Better quality-of-life rankings through fine print
Nebraska - You're only two layovers away
Nebraska - It's way better than rural I-70
Nebraska - We're right next to Colorado

State slogan saved; you can rest assured, 'the good life' is still in Nebraska
Paul Hammel: World-Herald Bureau wrote:The admission comes a day after a storm erupted on Facebook, Twitter and talk radio over a suggestion by one official that maybe it was time to retire the old "good life" tag line in the process of picking a new state slogan for tourism marketing.

New slogan should be something to the effect of

"Drive through our state with out-of-state plates, we dare ya"!

Immediately followed by:

"don't forget to tip the guy in the black uniform for the cavity search"

On a serious note, this bullsh*t we have going on, with hundreds of state troopers swarming I-80 and finding any BS reason they can to pull over and search out-of-town travelers, is really bad for the state. Looks very, very bad, and no slogan on a stupid sign can mask that.

So, if I'm hearing this correct, you want the state patrol to protect you from pot? Come on...

Oh, they make much more cash by fining and incarcerating by way of federal grants, I'm sure. I emphatically disagree with their tactics, agenda, an question the constitutionality of their entire process.

But this is all way off topic, and it's my fault.

Here it is for others:

Probably equally as bad as Iowa's:

Oklahoma's is way better:
