Update on the hospital project...http://www.theindependent.com/news/loca ... 127b6.html
The first phase of a 96-acre development at the southwest corner of Highway 281 and Highway 34 in Grand Island will include a 64-bed hospital, a hotel with conference space and a three-story medical office building.
Work on Phase 1 is scheduled to begin this fall. The full-service hospital will be the anchor tenant for the development, which its backers say is contingent on receiving tax-increment financing.
The select-service hotel with conference space will be attached to the hospital, providing a convenient option for travelers coming off Interstate 80, as well as for family members of patients admitted at the hospital.
The attached medical office building will allow physicians to share services with the hospital as well as being convenient to serve patients quickly and appropriately.
The overall site plan will eventually include office space, residential living, senior living, restaurants, retail and hike-and-bike trails. The design and architectural components will be cohesive throughout the 96-acre development with a planned community concept, the press release said.
Chief Industries will be the master developer for the property, ensuring that the development is focused on supporting the needs and growth of Grand Island, which has a population of 51,000 residents, with a secondary market population exceeding 200,000 residents.
Chief Industries and HDR said the potential development on the southwest corner of Highway 281 and 34 will be the catalyst to spur the growth and vibrancy down the South Highway 281 corridor.
