After the zoo, we went over to the bluffs, first stop was the Lincoln Monument. Jesse was there set up doing a time lapse so after talking to him for a few min, we went up to the Lewis and Clark monument. Got one lightning bolt before the storms moved to the east.

1. Lightning strike.

Awesome picture, Brad -- catching that fork lightning strike!! That's not something we get to see often; the Omaha skyline from that bluff, with a storm off the plains rolling in. Absolutely love it. That's one of the elements I love about the Great Plains. Thanks for sharing. I'm so excited every time we get severe weather (although I don't want property to get damaged, including mine). When you took that shot, I had just left visiting relatives, and had pulled into a gas station (pulled under a canopy to get gas) just as hail came through.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

I saw a picture texted to somebody today, taken from 132nd & Dodge, and there was a clearly-defined, somewhat wide-looking funnel (looking almost white-gray) hanging downward beyond a building of the First National Business Park. It was weird seeing that image behind that park. I heard there maybe was some injuries & damage near 132nd & Blondo, but I'm not sure what exactly. It felt a slight bit too chilly for a tornado today, I thought. But, there was that slight eerie feeling in the air (when the tornado sirens were going off) at the same time.

That's it!!! (The image I saw was taken a little to the right of that picture, but very similar picture). I was at around 156th & Maple when the sirens went off, and I couldn't see it, but I figured it had to be over in that area, as it was really dark & menacing looking over the Boys Town area.

Thanks for posting that. It's weird, because I've never seen a funnel over West Omaha like that. When a storm is coming into Omaha from the usual direction of the SW, usually they seem to hit Millard first. (I say that because two tornadoes in 1975 hit Millard -- a small one in March 1975, and the big one later in May started outside of the Millard area, before making its way up 72nd Street. Then, 2008 had an occurrence where roofs were ripped off in the Millard area from a smaller tornado. Yet, they can hit anywhere.)

That's strange. I just noticed that building for the first time yesterday driving eastbound on Dodge. Now today it's famous.

I didn't really realize it at the time but I'm pretty sure I saw this thing. I was seeing the clouds moving weird just to the west around the time the sirens went off but didn't think too much of it.

I've never been ultra-fond of that building, but I don't greatly dislike it either, and I'm glad it is there. I think simply because there are better architectural examples nearby in that business park, imo. For example, love the Valmont building... I do like the glass color and spaced-out lines... Anyways...glad the funnel didn't hit it.

Yeah, I agree it's not that great. Out of all the buildings out there, I like the FNB building west of Valmont. I think it was designed by Ellerbe Becket out of MPLS...but I'm not positive. Do you know who designed it?

The media sure is making this out to be a big deal. Thankfully it wasn't worse, but now the OWH is dragging out their 40th anniversary coverage of the 1975 tornado from last year over a couple tree branches and a fence.

I have to run, but here's a video of it -- and damage path shown. Those people are fortunate in Linden Estates and Lake Candlewood that it wasn't worse.

Wow, surprised to log on after a week away and see Zero post about the 180th and Fort Street Hail. That was all over the National Media and everything!

Yeah, highway 275 was closed the other day, from what I heard. I drove through Scribner yesterday and you could see where they had to plow the mud off the highway.

I heard the sirens going off at work and I looked out the window and saw it in the distance. At first I was wondering it that was really a tornado I was seeing.

I did not see the mini-tornado itself, but I did see some clouds that looked like mammatus directly over me as I drove home. There was an initial report of some kind of a tornado or funnel cloud sighting in the area of those clouds but I never heard anything else about it.

The News stations were telling everyone that the Rope Tornado was just sitting near Glenwood IA. Turns out it was sitting right in the middle of lake Manawa. This UTUBE came up showing the people calmly starring at the Tornado just sitting there in the middle of Lake Manawa. My common sense would have been screaming in my ear to get the heck out of there but I probably would of stayed and watched too!

Amazing Clouds tonight in Omaha! This was from the storm that was Sever Warned when it was near Waverly, but drifted west..

All these are taken looking south from Westside Middle School on 84th and Center. Besides these clouds, there was awesome clouds, color and light in all directions!
