Could you imagine it being a full freeway-like road from I-80 to Airport Drive?
It'll never happen obviously. Too many buildings in the way. They'd have to be torn down to make room for on and off ramps and I don't think many Grand Island residents would be too happy about that.
But still, I wonder that at times. US 281 being an interstate-like freeway from said distance.

I've wondered this as well. I definitely think it's possible. They could build the freeway narrow just like 480 is north of I-80. I'd love to see it come to fruition! I think if this happened, there would be a development boom between Grand Island and I-80.

Not so fast, from what many say on this forum is that freeways are bad.

With your non-Interstate U.S. highways which go through small towns, bypasses are more of an issue.

I think freeways have their place. Although I always support increased density, Grand Island's challenge is accessibility and visibility from the interstate...It has no-one. I think a freeway that could take you from they interstate to the airport in 20 mins would be great for the community and lead to more development.MTO wrote:Not so fast, from what many say on this forum is that freeways are bad.

Did you know that Nebraska was the first state to complete its mainline interstate route?
