About noon today, there were over two dozen bald eagles at Lake Manawa. There's several areas of open water in all the Eagles were sitting on the ice around the open the pools of water.

Pacific Junction, Iowa = 8
Google farm ponds = 3
Lake Manawa = +/- 30
Harrahs casino = 1
Carter Lake = 0
Mormon Bridge = 1
Dodge park = 0

Be interesting to see what happens this week with all the ice is gone. With 50° today and 30 mile an hour winds, I don't see the ice be around much longer

I was at Manawa from 11 to about 1 and then again from around 5 to dusk. I spent most of my time in that 11-1 stretch sitting on a tree stump along the south shore. East of that main lot by the boat ramp and all the people.

I arrived at Dodge Park about 4pm or so, both of the photos posted above are from Dodge Park.

Both times I was at Manawa there would be an eagle sitting in a tree and large groups of people surrounding. Funny thing is, when I was leaving Manawa the first time, there were a good 20 people looking at one tree, and this was going on right behind them... LOL.

I went to Council Bluffs for lunch Monday and cruised through Lake Manawa on the way home. There were about 10 eagles hanging out just south of the boat docks in front of those houses just waiting for the gulls or geese or fish hanging around on the edge of the ice sheet to make one little mistake!

IF you like Eagles (The Birds, not the band in this case) take 2 Minutes out of your life to watch this from Alaska

I have been over to Lake Manawa a bunch lately. Wednesday Sunset, Thursday Sunrise and Sunset, Friday Sunrise. There is still a little bit of ice hanging on, and still a whole bunch of eagles. I would guess +/-30.

There is a pair of nesting eagles at Chalico Hills recreation area.

I was talking to a guy there that had a son in the boyscouts. The boyscouts were there the week before and they were told the following. During the spring of 2016, the NRD did that big shad kill-off and 8 ealges showed up to eat all the dead fish. Two of those eagles took over this nest, which was a hawks nest and made it larger. This year they returned and laid eggs. Not sue when they eggs were laid or how many are in there.

1. Eagle sitting on the nest, the other few away as I was driving in.

There was a bald eagle at Carter Lake today. Its been a while since I have seen one there.

Its great seeing the eagles make such a remarkable recovery. I am about 95% I saw an eagle every single month in 2017 within 60 miles of Omaha.

I saw a bald eagle gracefully flying right over I80 by the Platte River when I was driving home from Lincoln yesterday about 4:30. Saw it from a distance and would have been great to have a camera because it stayed in the open and just circled for a while.

We were driving back from Lincoln Sunday morning and had fly right over us at the Platte River bridge on I80.

A record 209 active bald eagle nests were estimated in Nebraska in 2007 by the Nebraska Game and Park Commission.

The total exceeds 2016's record of 162 and represents a 56 percent increase.

I'm guessing that was meant to say 2017 not 2007.

Its great having so many of them around. Seems like anymore, I see at least one between Omaha and Lincoln every time I go down there. Not even by the river either. A couple weeks ago there was one right on the side of I80 in the middle of a corn field.
