From today's W-H:
'A recent Census Bureau report shows Nebraska's Latino-owned businesses opening at a rate faster than the U.S. average.
And nationally, the Cornhusker state ranked No. 1 in the percentage increase in revenue generated by Latino business owners.
Sales receipts in Nebraska reached an estimated $434 million in 2002, according to the study, which covered 1997 to 2002. That's a 207 percent increase from five years earlier.
Nebraska started with a smaller base, so its growth relative to larger immigrant gateway states is more pronounced. And while the number of Latino-owned firms in the state jumped by 37 percent, they still accounted for less than 2 percent of Nebraska's businesses.
Still, Nebraska's immigrant-fueled Latino population was the nation's 10th-fastest-growing last decade. Through 2005, the state continued to add an average of 6,000 Latinos a year, said Rakesh Kochhar of the Washington, D.C.-based Pew Hispanic Center.'..
Impressive growth!..
