Firstier Event Center, Kearney

Post by Candleshoe »

Just a few pics from the Tri City Storm vs Chicago Steel game last night (12/8/06) at the Firstier Events Center in Kearney (formerly the Tri City Arena and most recently the Kearney Events Center) By the way, Tri City won 4-0

Don't recall if any arena pics have been posted before, so that's my motivation...

Vegas investor makes offer for Kearney arena, hockey team

TODD GOTTULA WORLD-HERALD NEWS SERVICE wrote:KEARNEY, Neb. -- A new buyer has emerged in discussions involving the sale of Kearney’s FirsTier Event Center and Tri-City Storm Hockey team.

Las Vegas businessman Kirk Brooks signed a letter of intent late last week to purchase the Event Center and hockey team from owner Joel Wiens, The Kearney Hub reported Monday.

As a result, the City of Kearney has withdrawn its purchase offer and will no longer be involved in negotiations to buy the 5,000-seat arena.

“The city has always been interested in having private ownership of the Event Center,” said City Manager Mike Morgan. “Now that a private owner has stepped forward, the city feels it is appropriate to withdraw its offer and allow new negotiations to take place.”

A record 315,273 people attended hockey games and other events at the Event Center in 2008, breaking the record of 305,798 set in 2006.

When Ted Baer sold the team, it was suspect if it would survive. When their GM, Greg Shea left to become the Kearney Chamber President, it nosedived.

the TriCities proved they would support the team, but the team stopped returning the love.

Good luck. Hope this works!
