I'm almost positive this was mentioned awhile back in another thread, but I can't find it...
LINCOLN, Neb. — State lawmakers have given second-round approval to a bill that would allow Scottsbluff and Gering to merge.
The bill (LB1056) from Senator Philip Erdman of Bayard arose after officials in the two cities discussed the possibility of merging but realized they couldn't without a change in state law.
It's unlikely the bill would be used anywhere else in the state.
One of the requirements would be that cities wanting to merge share a common border as Scottsbluff and Gering do.
The bill would let residents of the two cities vote on whether the cities should be merged.
