Heartland Events Center Events

Post by Candleshoe »

I haven't been paying attention... while the Qwest Center hosted state wrestling this weekend, GI's Heartland Events Center hosted the Nebraska Cheerleaders and Dance Squad state championships. They have such a thing? Apparently. And it's apparently pretty big time.

Besides the restaurants being swamped, the Conestoga Mall looked like the day after Thanksgiving. We stopped into Hobby Lobby for a couple of picture frames and that's when we learned what's up. The place was packed and a cashier commented, after our 30 minute wait in line, that this might be their biggest day of the year. Just checking the local paper, it says that there were over 1,600 students preregistered. Factor in friends, family, support people, coaches, sponsors, etc...  a nice catch for GI.

I looked at the schedule and it looks like virtually all the Omaha suburban schools are coming, plus the Catholic schools, but no city schools.

I'm surprised the city had enough cell tower bandwidth to handle such an event.
