Aw, not really. But today, the NSAA decided to move the 2010 and 2011 Nebraska State Volleyball championships to Grand Island, with Hastings co-hosting first round games.
First, the State Patrol Academy, then, the National Guard Helicopter base, then the State Fair, followed by Allegiant Air...
Now this.
Watch out, Lincoln. GI has it's sights set on Ali Baba's, next!
GI is quietly stealing Lincoln, piece by piece...

A few thoughts:
1) You can have the state fair.
2) State Volleyball is a good "get" for GI.
3) Didn't they try this 20+ odd years ago to the smallest crowds ever, only to have it move back to Lincoln? Â Actually, that might have been Kearney. Â Either way, it was way before my time, but wouldn't be completely surprised to see it happen again. Â It will be a good experiment to see what actually happens though.

According to the Journal Star, it WAS indeed Kearney, and 29 years ago.Didn't they try this 20+ odd years ago to the smallest crowds ever, only to have it move back to Lincoln? Actually, that might have been Kearney
I don't know the story about how big or small the crowds were. There were how many classes back then? 3? 4 at best?
having first round games divided up with two in Hastings is no worse than state basketball, where many games are played in Waverly... so, that's not an issue. Hastings High and the college are within 20 minutes of hotel row in GI.
