The public is invited to offer input in the development of a trail that would extend from the Missouri River to Sioux City following the scenic and historic route forged by the Lewis & Clark expedition more than 200 years ago.
The trail could be used for walking, bike riding or horseback riding.
A meeting will be held Monday night, July 27, at the Council Bluffs Public Library, 400 Willow Ave., beginning at 7, followed by meetings Tuesday, July 28, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Community Hall, 205 S. Main St.

Public input sought for proposed Lewis & Clark trail
Trails that are specifically designated can be “an economic generator” for a community, a planning official said.
That could be the case for a proposed state-designated trail in western Iowa, to be known as the Lewis & Clark Trail, that would allow modern day explorers to view the scenic beauty by foot, bicycle, on horseback, on an ATV or part of it on water from the Missouri state line to Sioux City. It’s been identified by the Iowa Department of Transportation as one of five “trails of significance” around the state. . . .
The trail could be built combining current roads, including low-traffic-volume roads, with improved shoulders for the trail, with all new trails constructed all the way, she said. The trail could take users to unique and interesting businesses where they could get a flavor of western Iowa, it was mentioned at the Community Hall meeting. . . .
Residents can offer input by taking a survey available on the IDOT Web site, Silkworth said. The Web site is www.iowadot.gov/lewisclarktrail.
“The goal is to finish a master plan next July,” Silkworth said.

Proposed bike trail unveiled
In two, maybe three years, if all goes according to plan, hikers and bicyclists could explore natural beauty and man-made attractions on a network of trails off the beaten path between the Missouri River and the Loess Hills of western Iowa from the Missouri border to South Dakota. . . .
The suggested name for the entire project is the Bluffs and Bottoms Trail, and it would stretch through Fremont, Mills, Pottawattamie, Harrison, Monona and Woodbury counties. . . .
The basic routes at the moment could be up and running in 2012 or the following year, Shukert said, at an estimated cost of $2 million. Â . . .
