Plattsmouth Sewer and Streetscape Overhaul

Post by StreetsOfOmaha »

Plattsmouth is possibly my favorite small town in Nebraska. It's historic main street is largely intact with beautiful historic buildings lining both sides. And it's about to get even better, as the city plans to build a brand new streetscape concurrently with their sewer separation project.

Here is a link and some highlights from the OWH article:

At the same time the new pipe is laid, workers will install new sidewalks, benches, trees, lighting and a sound system. All wiring will be tucked neatly underground. The sound system will be used for parades, concerts and other events.

Jones said bollard lights, a type of cost-efficient LED outdoor lighting encased in a vertical post at ground level, were selected to give Main Street an intimate feel.
In fact, the city will also be able to afford a few flourishes, such as a one-block-long public festival area south of Main Street on Fourth Street.

The festival area will include a moveable stage that can be wheeled out and anchored with its back to Main Street and the Romanesque Cass County Courthouse, built in 1892.
I hope there are some renderings released soon.

I don't want to derail this into a "why Plattsmouth is awesome" thread, but I thought I'd post that the Fitzgerald Building condo conversion appears to be done and units are now for sale, starting at $62k.

I've only been through downtown Plattsmouth once, but it seems like an exciting time for the area.
