Brodkey’s Jewelers, a family-owned chain that opened in Omaha in 1880, has filed for bankruptcy and plans to close its stores.

The company says the business has under-performed. It will sell its assets to pay creditors between $1 million and $10 million, according to a filing Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Nebraska.

Sad to see another Omaha company close.  They were started in Omaha in 1880.  We bought our engagement and wedding rings there in the past year or so.  I am wondering if they are going to send us somewhere else to get the rings cleaned and inspected since they are under warrenty or if we are just out.

This is sad! I really hate to see an independent local shop like this go out of business! :( :(
