Yahoo adding 100 jobs at "La Vista" data center

Post by NovakOmaha »

Not as sexy as a server farm but it's 100 more quality jobs.  I could be snarky & say "It isn't as sexy as the baby sitting jobs at a server farm" but that's not my style...

Yahoo, it turns out, recognized the potential in Nebraska and made the decision to open both a data center operation in La Vista and a customer care center in Omaha. With the two projects combined, Yahoo planned to hire more than 350 people and invest about $170 million.

Both projects were announced in October 2008 at a news conference at which local, state and Yahoo officials were decked out in corporate purple, including Gov. Dave Heineman in his purple Converse All-Star sneakers!

As projects go, this one was definitely on a fast track. Six years later, Yahoo’s employment has grown to nearly 400 people in this market. Beyond the company’s initial investment, they have since increased their data center capacity, added computer server assembly operations, added a customer call center, expanded into additional operational/corporate space and moved a majority of the global accounting functions to Omaha.
Really interesting piece on how we pitched and landed Yahoo.
