Cox Communications will restructure its customer service operations nationwide, resulting in a net gain of 300 jobs for Omaha, the company told workers Wednesday.
But about 70 local Cox employees were given a 60-day notice Wednesday that their jobs are being relocated to Oklahoma. Those workers will not be guaranteed a job but will be given preferential consideration if they reapply with Cox, and a $15,000 moving package if they are hired for a relocated job.
The move will not require the company to open or close any facilities in Omaha, Martin said. Cities losing jobs include Pensacola, Fla., West Warwick, R.I., and Lafayette and New Orleans, La., according to news reports. Cities gaining expanded centers include Oklahoma City, Baton Rouge, La., and Wichita, Kan.
Cox currently employs about 1,000 people in Omaha. The company said the changes will result in a total of about 1,300 people employed in the metro.
Be happy. Not everyone in any given city is going to hold a bachelor's degree, making $50k+ a year.. A metro of nearly 900,000 is going to have varying levels of education, varying levels of qualifications and of course varying levels of living types (urban, suburban, exurban).
I say, be happy for any increase of jobs at all levels of the spectrum.
