If they could just get the same quality of Ice Tea as Quick Trip, they would be my favorite gas station. Love stopping in for a slice of Pizza when I am out and about.
Casey's is great and all, but it's sickening to think what they've done to convenience store owners in small towns.
They have systematically forced hundreds of independently owned gas stations out of business in a 4 state region with their yummy donuts and pizza. Actually, they will purge their fuel prices and force the small guys out of the fuel business.

S33, I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not...
That said, while there are nice small town mom and pop gas stations, most of them haven't done one ounce of upkeep in the last 60 years... A little work would go a long ways on most of them.
That article also mentions that Casey's is the Fifth Largest Pizza Chain, most mom and pop gas stations barely even have snacks. A good selection of snacks could help too.
Profit margins on gasoline on the retail side are nonexistent anymore with most people paying with credit cards. Basically the model has shifted from a gas station that sold convenience items, to a convenience store that sells gas.
When the1wags and I were shooting the Maroon Bells a few months ago, getting up earlier than *bucks opened, C-stores were the only place to really get coffee.
At lot of times when I get a snack at a gas station I look at the prices. Buckys and QT always seem to have the lowest prices on pop (especially in the summer when 32 oz are usually 49 cents and hot dogs are 2/$2.22) I like Casey's but their pop is almost always over $1. The nearest gas station to our house in Bellevue, Kum N GO, has pizza for $1/slice on Wednesdays and it is really good.
All the c-stores except QuikTrip have terrible iced tea. I don't think most places properly clean their equipment or re-brew and replace the tea throughout the day, which leads to a funky taste. McDonald's is okay because they put a plastic liner in the dispenser, but you usually get tea that's several hours past the sell by time.

The worst is "Cum and Go" because its not even real ice tea. The have a machine there that looks just like an ice tea brewer, however is just a really fancy dispenser for fountain ice tea. What a Joke!
I wasn't talking about the "ma n pa" shops that only sell Shasta and expired beef jerky, I'm talking about independently owned convenience stores who operate inside the franchise model of corporate convenience store chains, with food, beer, candy, sun glasses, condoms, tobacco, etc.
Casey's, if I recall correctly, is the largest convenience store chain that is entirely corporately run, and that allows them the flexibility to utilize their fuel as a loss leader to muscle the other gas stations. It doesn't matter that fuel margins are little to nothing, it matters that Casey's will and has always been prepared to lose whatever revenue on fuel it takes to close idependently owned and financially limited stores.
This isn't speculation, this is their business model, which is why they've spread so quickly, and why you find multiple Casey's stores on a single main st in a small town.
But like I said, their pizza and donuts do really well in augmenting that model.

Perhaps they've cleaned up the stragglers but Caseys used to be a franchise deal. I know the town I grew up in though had a franchisee they were trying to buy out and that was forever ago so that may have been when they shifted. They were pretty serious there too. The guy wouldn't take the buyout so Caseys just opened up 2 or 3 other stores and waited for him to croak.

Based on what I heard from the Casey's Gretna location a few years back they were one of the last that was franchise. They were buying out or ending the franchise agreements with all remaining non company locations at that time. The one in Gretna went independent and now is just a genric clone at some level. Guessing this was 6 or 7 years ago

I believe, in the early 90's, Casey's did have a franchise buy-in model, but they quickly stopped that when they realized the recipe to their growth was to be a corporate entity with pricing control/buying power, and quality control on each store.
Actually, I think there are still a couple franchises out there.

An employee at the Fantasy's in Papillion told me yesterday that Casey's has bought out the entire company, and all 11 metro locations will become Casey's by the end of February/beginning of March. Supposedly employees were notified of the sale last week. I can't find any corroborating info online, so if the mods want to move this to rumors go for it. It came up as I was asking the guy refilling my propane tank about the book of car wash coupons I received as a gift a couple of weeks ago...he said I should use them up before the store changes over just in case the new owners don't honor them.

Interesting that Spaustat sold out. Sapp Bros is going to lose a major fuel account with the sale. I don't know how they are going to put a full kitchen in some of those stores without a major remodel. I wonder what's going to happen to the illegals working in their tunnel washes?

Not every Casey's has a full kitchen although I believe their intent is to move that way. One for sure that doesn't is on 33rd and Holdrege in Lincoln

For anyone from Casey's reading this we need a Casey's in GRETNA NE really bad!!!!
I’m surprised, frankly, there isn’t a location there already ...
Ciao..LiO...Peace
There used to be--the BP on US-6 near NE-370. Dates back from when Casey's were prefab crackerboxes.
One thing is that Gretna hasn't coalesced around its 'downtown'. There are two K&Gs and a new QT along NE-370 @ I-80 ("East Gretna") and two stations (Bosselman's and Conoco / Flying J / Pilot) at NE-31 @ I-80 ("Southwest Gretna").
I haven't been in downtown Gretna since 1991, because I've had no business there. Closest I come is the Godfather's. K&G and QT set up shop where the money is, plain and simple.
Honestly, Elkhorn has the same spread-out problem, too.

There use to be. When Casey’s bought Bought back alll the franchise locations a number of years ago this location went independent and tried to be a Casey’s want to be. Never worked. It has changed hands they have gotten away from the want to be mode.

I looked (former) Fantasy's owner John Spaustat up, and apparently he passed away in 2016, not long after that brand new store in Papillion opened. I can see the company eventually being sold after an event like that.
It seems like one in actual Gretna proper would be right in their wheelhouse...
Just thinking about Interstate 80 between Omaha and Kearney, all the small towns have them in town and not out on I80. Wood River, GI, Aurora, York, Seward, and Waverly are all in town. Kearney is the first town on I80 that has a Casey's close to the interstate. So the fact that Gretna has all the gas by the two interstate exits doesn't seem like it would affect Casey's.

There are 3 1/2 gas stations in the Gretna proper footprint.
Shell with a drive threw car wash. Well kept. My go to for in town gas purchased. This is the one that sold the multi million $$$ lottery ticket a few years back.
Phillips 66 In the front of what once was the bowling alley and the back now has the hardware store. Stand alone carwarsh building that is a tunnel wash type that is staffed and has limited hours. Not bad but I find it a pain to get in and out of esp when I am usually coming from the S.
The "what was at one time Casey's". Across the street from Phillips 66. New owners for a while now but not a place that appeals to me. Always has seemed like an "also ran" when I go in there. Think it is called Pit Stop now. As a side note it is time for the over the top temp business name banner to be replaced. Been that way for a long time now.
the "1/2" is the COOP gas pumps. They seem to have a limited but loyal following. Never seem to be many vehicles fueling there.
To me there is area between the 432 exit ( outlet mall) and the longer term developed area of Gretna along hwy 6 / 31 that is ripe for a nice Casey's or Casey's type store.
