Hotel Branding

Post by Coyote »

Couldn't find a good thread, so I'll start one here.

The Hilton changed brands on their 72nd St. to Doubletree, their "Full Service" brand. My question would be, is this standard Hotel branding: Luxury, Full Service, Select Service, Extended Stay, Timeshare...? Hilton's Waldorf, DoubleTree/Embassy Suites, Garden Inn/Hampton, Homewood/Hone 2 Suites...? How would you then define the differences?

I work in the corporate hotel industry. Most hotel brands require a full renovation every 6 years. If the owner is unwilling to fit the full $ to remodel they have the choice to either lose their flag (main brand ie Hilton) and forced to find a new brand. Or they have the pay half or less the renovation cost to remodel to the brands lower option. Plus franchise fees may be lower.

Luxury = Valet - higher end full service
Full service - must include restaurant. No valet
Select service - only breakfast generally no restaurant
Economy - generally no breakfast or restaurant. Limited service and front desk hours
Extended stay - limited housekeeping service room. Generally priced on a 2-7 night minimum stay

Motel targeted toward truckers. Mainly a room with very little amenities

Thanks Omaha Gabe, I was hoping you could answer that. Never thought 6 years would be required, but it makes total sense.

So why did DoubleTree change brands again?
where do signature brands or boutique hotels line up in this list?

Am I missing any Omaha chains:?

Hyatt
Intercontinental
Wyndham
Marriott
Hilton
Choice Hotels
Best Western
Starwood
Carlson
