probably somewhat small news but when comfed was around they offered merchant banking (credit card authorization) to businesses via first data. with bank of the west, merchant banking goes through a different card processor (nova). i realize comfed was probably a relatively small client for first data but with each bank/business leaving them i would assume it would add up.

And an in depth follow-up from today's W-H:
'Instead of getting rid of the credit card processing business, which employs 5,300 people in Omaha, First Data will spin off its high-flying Western Union money-transfer business into a new publicly traded company.
The announcement that it will not sell off the card-issuing segment ended years of corporate angst about the Omaha operation and months of speculation. Instead of getting rid of the card business, First Data will reorganize it and the other non-Western Union pieces of the company.'..

They are cutting 550 from Denver.First Data Corp., the Atlanta-based company that employs 5,000 people in Omaha, said Wednesday that it plans to add a “significant” number of jobs in the area next year by moving here some tasks currently performed in Denver.
Spokeswoman Nancy Etheredge said she the number of jobs hasn't been determined.
“But it could be significant,” she said. “At the end of the day, it will mean more jobs for Omaha.”
