Ameritrade Reports Monthly Metrics

OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 2004--Ameritrade Holding Corporation (Nasdaq:AMTD) today reported 113,000 average client trades per day in August 2004. The Company opened 20,000 new accounts and closed 10,000 accounts during August resulting in an aggregate of 3,509,000 total accounts.

Margin Balances and Client Assets

The Company reported average client margin balances in August of approximately $3.2 billion. On August 27, 2004, client margin balances totaled approximately $3.1 billion. Client assets totaled approximately $67.4 billion of which cash and money market assets totaled $12.2 billion.

Outlook

Ameritrade expects its earnings per share to be near the lower end of the $0.10 to $0.22 guidance for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004. The Outlook Statement is available at the Company's corporate Web site located at http://www.amtd.com.

Share Repurchase

During August, Ameritrade utilized $11.0 million to repurchase approximately 1.0 million shares of its stock. Since the stock buy-back program was initiated, through August 27, 2004, the Company has invested about $402.9 million in repurchasing 41.4 million shares at a weighted average price of $9.73 per share.
