This is the only other recent news that I have seen:
First National, First Data team up to offer ‘private-label’ credit cards

If anything I would have thought this would give a boost to their business. But as mentioned on the other thread, the TIF on this building was up, they are probably looking at saving money with fewer taxes.

No job losses, just shifting people around to other facilities.

A Wisconsin-based company inked a $22 billion deal to purchase First Data, the Omaha-born company that recently has employed around 5,000 people in the area.

The companies, in a joint statement, said their individual offerings were complementary.

It wasn't clear in the initial statement what it would mean for the companies' work forces.

According to a WSJ article, they plan to save 900 million, in part by (as expected) eliminating duplicate corporate positions. Probably a bummer for quite a few in Omaha I would guess.

Man, why does this stuff keep happening to Omaha companies? When was the last time Omaha "stole" jobs from another area?

Didn’t we take some of ScotTrade’s when TD Ameritrade bought them?

I didn’t know they had that many employees in Omaha, I would of guessed maybe two or three thousand. The company that bought them is from the Milwaukee area. I think we can compete against Milwaukee. We need to try and keep some of these jobs ! Time for the Mayor and Governor to put incentives package together.

You're right. I forgot about that. It is good to know that it isn't always Omaha losing.

A reminder that Fiserv is a large employer in Lincoln. The company does have an established presence in Nebraska.

Right, which further complicates things. Being based in Milwaukee, how big of a Midwestern footprint do they want? What duplication exists in Omaha and Lincoln, then in Omaha vs Milwaukee? If they want just one presence in Nebraska, do they go with their established location/s in Lincoln or the larger Metro in Omaha and FD's infrastructure? Is the increase in accounts going to necessitate a larger workforce so the cuts might not be as bad?

So many interesting questions.

As a former First Data employee for a decade (I moved on from them In 2018)..this sale cements it for me that I made the right decision. The place (at least my department) for the better part of a year, just didn’t feel right..

And as the “expert” on corporate purchases stated in the W-H article, this sale should send a big time red alert to FD employees in the metro area.. I think many would be best advised to get their resumes updated.. Soon...

Wait, you were at FD too? I was with them from 2013 to 2017. I also made the right decision, I texted that to my father and another former colleague of mine who had moved on from FD the moment I heard the news and both agreed.

Indeed. I was there from 2008-2018.. Much has changed in the past 5 years at FD. With so many people moving on, perhaps we should set up a FD alumni association :;): ...

As it happens, I'm among about 50 Fiserv employees, in a little known office in Omaha.

If you didn't know already, Fiserv is company literally built on acquisitions. They've seen very little organic growth.

The team I'm with has been through upwards of a 1/2 dozen acquisitions itself and was in fact originally part of FDR! There are dozens of Fiserv locations all over the country. They also depend on a number of applications licensed from First Data, which I have little doubt they'll want to tap First Data knowledge, in support of (also a big BASE24 shop... aka ACI, another possible acquisition target). While there will certainly be job losses... most of it's going to be in the HR/payroll/marketing/etc... capacity. The presence in Omaha is always going to be considerable, but we lost the headquarters long ago. A lot of those things which made First Data attractive are right here (albeit some of it was already diminishing on it's own). Where there's overlap in technology, realize... migrations don't happen overnight, and need support from both 'sides'. There'll be some nice severance packages at a minimum.

I'm actually expecting to get marching orders to Aksarben as early as 2020 (our office is an embarrassment, was forced to leave our Miracle Hills office and join an operations group in what amounts to a strip mall). As far as Fiserv headquarters, they're in Brookfield, suburb of Milwaukee... relatively small presence. Fiserv also has a large presence in Alpharetta (aka Atlana where First Data is based). I would almost expect them to re-locate their headquarters there.

Anyway, only time will tell... but I really don't think this is going to have as big an impact in Omaha as many think it will.

I was just reviewing this older thread and saw this mention of bad office space. I was in IT at First Data for 30 years before the Fiserv merger and still work there. My department was displaced by construction in the remaining Aksarben building, and is now in a former manufacturing room (later converted to a call center) in the former Pace building in Old Mill.

The end of November/2018, First Data moved several employee departments from their HQ building at 6805 Pacific St to the Pace building..

And they’re still located there as of today’s date..

Welcome to Fiserv :lafcry:...

The actual address is 6855 Pacific. (The building that was sold was on Pine.) I moved from Pace to 6855 about 2-3 weeks ago. The construction on Dodge and Pacific and in the south parking lot really messes with my commute!
