Best is an interesting name. I'm not sure how I like just calling these stations "Best"

I probably should not post what we called it in highschool...Coyote wrote:I thought the name was funny years ago - now it is just annoying.

It was enough pressure to convince Omaha's city council to deny the transfer of six of the licenses requested by the businessman.
The council approved the transfer of three liquor licenses to the man.
The sale of the stores apparently hinges on the liquor licenses.
These ladies were on the Tom Becka show a couple nights ago. I just don't buy their argument. On the one hand, they state that the elimination of these stores from the alcohol market will have this profound impact on the crime of the neighborhood. On the other hand, the same lady said she likes beer or wine every now and then and said it was not at all hard to get it in their neighborhood. She then went on to say they would not fight additional stores in the area as their goal is not prohibition.
Her comments just seemed VERY inconsistent. This led me to believe she either does not think her views through at all, or she is lying and has an agenda she is afraid or unwilling to disclose.

This is total BS... They already had the licenses. Â You could drop me off with out a car in any neighborhood and I could get beer and be back in less than an hour. Â Quit fooling yourself with this feel good vote.

This was on KM3 News last night. I feel the owner kind of shot himself in the foot by not waiting to sell until he had the licenses. Also, the new owner was already caught selling beer without a permit.

Channel 3 said on the news last night that normally the city just transfers the license to the new owner with very little questioning.
Channel 7 says "apparently" the sale is pending on the license.

My understanding is that this is an oversight, as the licenses usually just transfer over. Â NOW, the ladies did claim they were caught selling to a minor, which is different issue altogether.Uffda wrote:This was on KM3 News last night. I don't see a problem with having a new owner apply for a license. Â Suppose the owner of the Citrus lounge, who just lost his liquor license for not following the rules; was the purchaser of the Kum & Go's. Â Would the same lack of following the rules occur at the convenience stores if the permits were just transferred? Â However, the new owner should be given a chance without the Neighborhood gestapo interfering.
That might be true and I don't know anything about transferring liquor licenses, but I guessing he didn't have the legal right to yet sell liquor. Â He probably could have waited a few weeks and then there wouldn't have been that problem for him.My understanding is that this is an oversight, as the licenses usually just transfer over.

It doesn't hurt my feelings to see this denied. We could use a few less ghetto tobacco hut/whatever |expletive| stores around here.
Also, I think they should ban sales of individual beers. I'm sick of seeing empty Colt 45 tall boy cans laying around downtown. Anybody going into a store and buying a 22 or a 40 or two tall boys of Colt 45 for 2 bucks is up to no good anyways.

Honestly, denying Alcohol to one store here and there is a band-aid on a grenade wound...
Was the store he purchased across from Wholner's one of the ones that was not allowed sales? Â What does Wholner's boast??? A HUGE wine selection. Â Whats right down the street??? Bakers and Quick Trip both sell individual bottles of beer!

Take this as a microcosm of how I see our esteemed elected officials deal with just about every problem - and the main reason I can't stand them...
They do things to make themselves look good in the papers, on TV, and for the public at large but they dont really fix anything. Â The root of the problem is general distrust for police and a lack of general feeling of pride in their community...
so you shut this down - WHOOPTIDO Â
nothing is changed - the community still has distrust for the police (don't blame them) and a lack of pride...
NOTHING IS CHANGED...Yet they keep getting elected.
They should spend more time finding ways to fix the underlying problems and less time worrying about banning cigs and banning alcohol.

I forgot how that game was played. Â You tape a 40 to each hand and you can't take them off until they are empty which also means you can't pee until they are empty?UNOstudent wrote:40s come in handy sometimes

Speaking of Kum & Go wine:
I guess it is better than selling Boone's Farm.Omaha World Herald wrote:Kum & Go is now offering private-label wine. Napa Creek Sauvignon and Sea Ridge Merlot, bottled by the Charles Shaw label, are available in the convenience stores in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. Both wines will be sold exclusively at Kum & Go. The Napa Creek Cabernet Sauvignon will sell in Kum & Gos for just under $15, and the Sea Ridge Merlot for less than $7.
What???
Cabernet Sauvignon (red)
or
Sauvignon Blanc (white)
Its better that Boons Farms but..... Get a life?

Kum & Go (84th and I)
I saw that they were tearing down that old Keyboard Kastle building on 84th and I St. Curious, I looked up the building permits recently issued for that lot and the owner's address traces back to Kum & Go's corporate headquarters.
So, I'd bet money that a Kum & Go is being built there.
