Heard yesterday that the folks who own the local Ethan Allen are getting out of the furniture business.  The guy I heard it from wasn't certain at this point whether the store would simply close or if the store would be bought by corporate and run as a corporate store.

Ethan Allen deals with complaints as closing nears

The 43-year-old Omaha store announced last week that it would be going out of business, leading to fears, in the words of one Ethan Allen customer, that they would be "left out in the cold." Peg Lupton, director of public relations for Ethan Allen in Danbury, Conn., said today that "while there are issues of delivery that we are working to resolve and recognizing that it is the responsibility of Carriage House Inc., Ethan Allen is extremely interested in making sure that customers who have ordered Ethan Allen product get the products that they have ordered.

Omaha's Ethan Allen store, which closed last February because of the local owners' financial problems, will reopen as a company-owned store early next year.

The company will renovate and update the store at 10720 Pacific St., spokeswoman Peg Lupton said from Danbury, Conn. Ethan Allen hopes to have the new store open by February, she said.

Trenton Magid, president of Coldwell Banker Commercial World Group, said the company signed a 10-year lease with property owner JM Properties. Magid's company was the leasing agent for the transaction.

Omahan Robert Matt opened the furniture store in the mid-1960s. Matt and his family members operated it until, in Matt's words, the store "went broke."

At the time of the closing, customers complained that they weren't getting merchandise or that deliveries came only after long delays.

Ethan Allen's corporate office eventually stepped in to help ensure that customers received all the furniture for which they paid.

This is great news in a slow economy.  I think they have a premium product in a premium location.

According to Grow Omaha, Ethan Allen re-opened last Saturday.
