Reported by KPTM this evening... presumably warehouse/offices... whatever the case, new jobs.

I wonder if they would relocate the HQ here? How many people do they employ in Sidney? Either way, more jobs here is always a good thing.

Cabela’s, Papillion agree on data center

John Ferak WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:First came the impressive, 128,000-square-foot retail store at La Vista’s Southport development near Interstate 80.

Now, Cabela’s wants another commercial building in Sarpy County, but this new facility won’t be for shoppers.

Cabela’s has reached a tentative agreement with the city of Papillion to build a data and technology center near 72nd Street and Cornhusker Road. Data centers house computer systems and related equipment for businesses and individual customers.

Cabela’s expects to create at least a dozen full-time jobs at the Papillion Business & Technology Park.

Construction can’t begin until the Papillion City Council approves the proposed land sale, which comes up for a vote at today’s 7 p.m. meeting.

Papillion owns the land where Cabela’s wants its data center.
John Ferak WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:Cabela’s plans to have the 11,000-square-foot data center open in January 2011, city officials said.

“I think they are still planning on moving dirt this year,” Black said. “The good news is that this project will also help the local construction business, and it increases property values here, because (the data center) will be on the tax base.”

11,000 sq feet, dozen people huh... where are they going to put it... between the 'Cash Real Fast' and the 'Huang River Buffett' ??

Maybe next time I upgrade my home network I should put out a press release to the WH too.  You suppose there's a multi-million dollar tax break in it as well??

Sarpy lands Cabela's expansion
John Ferak WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:In the next few years, Papillion could be home to a $15 million data center for Cabela’s and an adjacent three-story-tall technology development center. Besides building a 16,000-square-foot data center over the next year, Cabela’s also wants to start a second project at the Papillion Business and Technology Park.

The second facility wouldn’t be built until after the company completes its new data center, officials said. The data center is slated to open in January 2011 and bring around 20 jobs. The technology development center could mean as many as 50 more jobs. The second facility, if built, would house computer programmers and other information technology specialists, the company said.

I feel like some of this should go to Sidney where they are kind of struggling to find and keep population. Then again, if they were in Sidney, it would be harder to find potential employees.
