Fabulous photos, thank you for sharing!
Do you have any color photos of the old Post Office and/or the medical arts building and/or Old City Hall?

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
Huh. Old renderings/sketches of the hotel that I saw made it look a lot taller. I'm trying to place what is currently there. Any help?

Hruska Federal Building, the squat beige box with the faux helicopter pad thing on the top.

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
The Masonic Temple west of the Fontenelle was substantial too. I remember the fight to save that one. Lost it to parking for the Hruska Fed. courthouse. It was another one of those two-facade buildings with relatively plain sides facing the former alleys between adjacent buildings.
Not sure what the building north of the Fontenlle was....it was not bad either.

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
Nice, I didn't even really notice that. I was thinking the very right edge of photo two. May be its was on the Medical Arts/First National Block?

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
In the second photo, the smaller orange-ish building due north of Hotel Fontenelle is the old Elks Lodge. The taller building on the right edge of the photo due east of the hotel is the old Omaha Athletic Club.

East of the Hotel Fontenell, the very right edge of photo 2. Looks like a 9 story building.mr. omaha wrote:The orange-ish building to the north of Hotel Fontenelle is the old Elks Lodge building.

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
So between FNB and the Fed Courthouse, we lost:
Medical Arts
Hotel Fontanel
Elks Lodge
Omaha Athletic Club
Masonic Temple
Don't get me wrong, I really like the FNB tower, but there were some cool buildings in that area.

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
I've got some more photos of those blocks. I'll try to post those soon.
I've actually got a couple of large pieces of terra cotta from the Medical Arts building. Such a neat top. I'm glad at least FNB saved one of the facades.

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
Do you have any color photos of the interior or of when it was torn down?
Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos

Another interesting view looking west on Douglas from 17th...also from the Bostwick-Frohardt collection at the Durham. Notice the more ornate telephone building at 19th & Douglas in the distance.

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
Makes me sad. So much torn down for lowrise buildings and parking lots.

I didn't look through them all, so I don't know if they have a view of the north and west sides.
I looked for the drawings at this site, but could not find any for the Fontenelle. Lots of other drawings though. I'll have to look again for the name Eppley, since the hotel chain was owned by Mr. Eppley.

Re: Hotel Fontenelle Photos
Really is to bad this was torn down, I hope it was at least in poor condition and deteriorating. This was torn down before I got to Omaha. Would of liked to of seen it in person. Omaha’s lost several old tall buildings.
