Creighton Basketball 2011-2012

Creighton got a commit today SG Isaiah Zierden from Minnesota.  Orris has also decommitted, but hasn't ruled out Creighton as an option still.

That is actually a really tough OOC schedule.  Kudos to Creighton for this one.

Not many good NC home games this year, but next year will be great!  Best CU schedule I've seen in a while.  Really the only buy a game is Houston Baptist...Chicago State, NC A&T, and Campbell are all part of the exempt event with Iowa.

This is as good of a place as any to post this.  I have been reading up on the recent A&M to the SEC saga and multiple talking heads (CFN, ESPN, SI, etc.) all talk about one of the downfalls of Super Conferences being NCAA basketball.  Specifically, they say there is a decent chance that the big conferences could just cut the mid majors out of the NCAA tourney and do their own thing.  I wonder how much thought schools like Creighton have put into this seemingly unrelated issue?

It does make one question whether those BCS conference alignments are really beneficial for any sport besides football.  Even considering that there are only about 130 Div 1A(FBS) football schools, but more than 350 Div 1 basketball schools should indicate that basketball alignment shouldn't' rely so heavily on football conferences.

120 to be exact (or is it 119?), with an additional four in transitional status to becoming full members in 2013 (Texas State, UT-San Antonio, South Alabama and UMass.)  I believe Western Kentucky was the most recent school to move to 1-A.
Stable genius.

Yeah I never can keep track either.  That's why I said "about."  Still, 119-120 makes the point even more relevant.

Ehh I can't see them cutting the mid-majors completely out of the basketball tournament.  Maybe get rid of some of the automatic bids, but I don't buy teams like Villanova, Georgetown, Marquette, Xavier, Gonzaga, Butler ect ect out of the tournament all together.

One thing that has been floated is that if the Big East gets to 12 football teams(Kansas St. Iowa St. Kansas perhaps?) that they could weed out some of the basketball only programs and that could lead to a sort of mid-major super conference that would include a lot of Jesuit schools. Creighton obviously fits the bill.

If there are 4 super conferences then yes 'nova and Marquette would become "mid majors".

You can't beat that kind of exposure.  ESPNU jumping from UCONN, Syracuse, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke to Creighton!!

That has to open some recruits eyes.

According to Lindy's Sports magazine, Creighton is ranked 23rd in the preseason poll and Antoine Young is ranked in the top 30 point guards in the nation.  While Doug McDermott is ranked the 5th best power forward in the country.

Yep, they go to UAB and play Iowa in Des Moines this week.

UAB was an at large team to March Madness last season and Iowa is no longer a laughing stock in the B1G.  The will probably be about middle of the road in that conference.

Granted they have only played 2 games against very poor opponents, but Creighton is ranked nationally in several categories:

#1 Assists per game (28.0)
# 8 Points per game (96.0)
#36 Field goal % (.524)

UAB's first non-conference home loss in 6 years.
Sheridan had UAB a 2.5 favorite.

Did anybody around here have anything to do with the new Creighton messageboard bluejayunderground?  I was pretty happy when I saw it considering the other Creighton messageboard is run by that d-bag Perrault.

Didn't have anything to do with it but read it about 5 times a day. Right now the cafe is in shambles, before the UAB game there was one new post, and it was by Perrault himself. Pretty much the only thing the cafe is good for now is looking at Brads game pics. Its pretty sad when Husker fans are happy there is a new boad.

Jays fans are very happy with the new board and are glad to have a place to talk again without having a dictator decide which comments stay and which ones go.

The White and Blue Review guys are the ones who made it FYI.

Here are the websites.

WOW Dougie Fresh is fun to watch.  The scary thing about that game is Manigat was pretty much a non-factor and he is a great shooter, they have so many weapons.

Great crowd to Friday's game: 16,683.  Hopefully many more of these to come with the notoriety the team is getting this year.
