Jirschele Returns to Omaha for 13th Season
Gregg, Henry, Iannicca also back to defend Pacific Coast League crown

OMAHA, Neb. - Mike Jirschele, recently presented with Minor League Baseball's 2011 Mike Coolbaugh award, will return for his 13th season at the helm of the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. The Clintonville, Wisc., native will lead the Storm Chasers in their quest to defend their Pacific Coast League Championship, the team's first league title since 1990.

Jirschele, 52, has a career managerial record of 1055-999 dating back to 1992, all with the Kansas City organization. That includes a mark of 842-883 in Omaha, with stints from 1995-97 and 2003 through this past season. He is a four-time winner of the Royals' Dick Howser Award, given for his excellence in 1992, 1994, 2005 and 2011.

Joining the veteran skipper will be hitting coach Tommy Gregg (fourth season in Omaha) and pitching coach Doug Henry (third season in Omaha).

Gregg, a veteran of nine major league seasons, helped blossoming young stars Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Johnny Giavotella, Manny Pina and Salvador Perez make their big league debuts during the 2011 campaign. His leadership was evident when Jirschele was on personal leave during the middle of the year, as Gregg served as the de facto manager and helped maintain the team's lead in the American Conference Northern Division standings.

Henry, who pitched 11 seasons in the majors - including one with the Royals - led a pitching staff that survived several big-league call-ups and featured PCL Pitcher of the Year Luis Mendoza, who recorded a sensational 2.18 ERA in 144.1 innings. Henry put together a rotation that led the league in earned run average in the months of April, July and August, with August's 3.21 ERA pacing the circuit by nearly a full run over Nashville's 4.10 mark.

Assisting the on-field staff will be returning athletic trainer Dave Iannicca and newcomer Joey Greany, who will serve as the Chasers' strength and conditioning coach.

I'm planning on going tonight and was going to just walk up and buy tickets at the box office.  Should I be worried about there not being tickets available?

Storm Chasers had a 11 AM first pitch today.  Good thing too.  They are just going into the top of the 16th tied 8 - 8 @ 4:15 PM  It was tied 7 - 7 at the end of 9 but they each scored a run in the 10th I believe.  Seven pitchers used so far.  They did a 14th inning stretch too!

OF Will Myers and P Jake Odorizzi are now Omaha Storm Chasers.  Sounds like Jake might pitch here Friday night.  These are two of the highest ranked prospects in baseball.  The talent has just been pouring into Omaha the last few years.

Went to the game last night.  Myers looks like an MLBer already.  Odorizzi pitched really well with the strongest winds I've seen out there.  These guys will make KC and will have an impact there.

Omaha Storm Chasers on verge of sale
It's an open secret the Omaha Storm Chasers (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) have been on the market, but it now appears a sale of the team is imminent.

The purchasers, which includes an investment banker already with an ownership stake in a short-season A team, is in the final round of negotiations to buy the team, despite scuttlebutt that a sale has already been consummated.

...

There may also be some pleasant surprises associated with a sale, we hear.

I am guessing that was that Alan Stein was part of the new Ownership Group?

Chasers as part of their TV deal with Metro Sports in KC are on TV tonight on Cox 2, Time Warner in Lincoln and Metro Sports in Kansas City.  With the Royals off today it will get good rating down there, they are very excited about Wil Myers here and Lorenzo Cain is now with the Chasers on his rehab assignment.  Both players hit HR's yesterday at Werner Park.

These broadcasts are being mentioned and discussed  on 810 WHB in KC.

If you haven't heard.  Rob Crain is leaving.  His last day with the Storm Chasers is this Friday.  All the Chasers Front Office Staff is Great, but Rob is one of the best!
Rob Crain wrote:Today is a bitter sweet day for me as I am announcing my departure from the Omaha Storm Chasers to join the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre Yankees (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees) as their President and General Manager.  It has been an incredible ride and I am going to miss Omaha greatly.  The opportunity in Scranton is one that I could not pass up as they are in the midst of a very large renovation of PNC Field and the team is also going through a potential rebranding of the club.

My mentor, Martie Cordaro, has been my biggest advocate through the entire process. I cannot thank him enough for his leadership, guidance and most importantly, his never ending friendship.   Martie, along with our new ownership group, led by Gary Green, will continue to provide the best in affordable, family fun entertainment in the Omaha metro area.

Best Regards,

Rob Crain

Wil Myers: Wil Myers to remain in minors for a while
Roto World wrote:Royals general manager Dayton Moore indicated that top prospect Wil Myers will remain at Triple-A Omaha for a while longer in order for the team to get an extended look at Lorenzo Cain... That could put Myers' timetable for a promotion around the beginning of August, but perhaps the Royals will free up a spot for him in right field by dealing Jeff Francoeur.

What's been up with the Chasers recently... they look as if they're wanting to make a division title come down to the wire after all.

I have been really busy lately so I haven't followed them nearly as close as normal, but I have seen a ton of roster moves come across my email in the past month or so.

Also Doesn't help when the parent club makes dumb trades and then robs the farm club of pitching out of necessity...

Yeah, those jerseys on Saturday were definitely interesting. I didn't understand the signs they handed out to everyone. I thought they were going to be part of a live prop or something.

Omaha Storm Chasers wrote:PAPILLION, Neb. — Tony Abreu has been given the nod by the Pacific Coast League as the Player of the Week for his performance from July 30th through August 5th. The Omaha infielder went on a tear and batted .458 (11-for-24) with two home runs, 12 runs batted in, three doubles and a triple in six games played. Abreu is the fourth Storm Chaser and the second position player to be tabbed as a PCL Pitcher/Player of the Week.

Abreu, who was just promoted to the Major Leagues by Kansas City on August 5th, has been a key piece in the Chasers race to repeat as American Conference Northern Division champions and has batted .322 with nine home runs and a team-high 73 RBI. The 27-year-old has spent parts of three seasons in the bigs for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks and has hit .251 with 3 homers and 31 RBI in 146 games.

Looks like everything went the Chasers way last night against Tucson

20 runs and 33 hits.  Guess that was enough to get over the one error they made and win 20 - 3
