Matt White eyes bigger role with Mavs

http://www.omaha.com/article/20120907/M ... -with-mavs
Rob White / World-Herald staff writer wrote:Captains practice started this week for the University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team, which leads to an obvious question.

Who might be the Mavericks’ captain for 2012-13, since Terry Broadhurst left for professional hockey right after last season ended?

Hockey, Basketball Get New Home on Radio

http://www.omavs.com/news/2012/9/11/mbb ... ath=mbball
www.omavs.com wrote:OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Omaha athletic department announced today that it is bringing its hockey and basketball broadcasts to the top sports radio stations in Omaha, 1620AM The Zone and 1180 AM The Zone 2.  The stations will combine to air nearly 60 games during the 2012-13 season.  The five-year agreement was brokered by Nelligan Sports Marketing, the multi-media rights holder for Omaha Athletics.

“We are excited to partner with the ZONE stations to bring both hockey and men's basketball to the premier destination for sports radio in our market,” said Trev Alberts, UNO's Director of Athletics.  “This is a relationship that not only makes hockey a cornerstone of the programming but also puts our men's basketball team back on the air during our first full year in the Summit League.  Over the term of this agreement, we look forward to working with The Zone to further grow our presence on its airwaves and online.”

“This is a tremendous partnership for our stations,” said Zone General Manager Andy Ruback.  “Listeners are deeply rooted in UNO sports tradition, and both teams have a following on a regional level.  The dual coverage on both Zone and Zone 2 will mean listeners can always stay in touch with the two premiere sports programs.”

“We're thrilled about our new partnership with the Zone stations,” said Nelligan Sports Marketing Senior Vice President, John Penney.  “This agreement provides the UNO with outstanding coverage of its hockey and men's basketball teams as well as provides our current and future corporate partners with an outstanding platform to reach the college sports fans located throughout the region.”

Operations Manager Neil Nelkin said coverage will be shared on the two Zone sports stations with Zone 2 carrying all of the UNO hockey games including 30-minute pre and post-game shows.  Weekly, the station will feature head coach Dean Blais during the UNO Coaches Show program.  “We are pleased to bring UNO Sports to the Omaha fan base. As the programs continue to grow and evolve, we look forward to partnering with the Mavericks to build exciting and successful platforms,” said Nelkin.

In addition to the broadcasts, game day coverage for both sports will be streamed live on-line at 1620thezone.com.

NBC To Show Up To Six UNO Hockey Games
omavs.com wrote:NEW YORK - The NBC Sports Network announced today a schedule of 24 college hockey games including as many as six UNO games.  It will mark the largest number of games the Mavericks have ever had on national television.

The schedule begins with the Icebreaker Tournament on Oct. 12.  NBCSN will show the two opening games beginning with Notre Dame and Maine at 6 p.m. and the Mavericks against Army at 9 p.m.  The network also will show the championship game on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. CT from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.

The Mavericks also will appear on NBCSN on Jan. 4 when they host Colorado College, Jan. 11 when they visit Denver, Feb. 8 when they host North Dakota and March 1 when they welcome Wisconsin.

“We are very excited to begin our second season of college hockey by offering more coverage than last year,” said Jon Miller, President, Programming NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. “NBC Sports Network will start the season two months earlier this year, providing sports fans with even more national primetime coverage of the nation's best college hockey.”

Friday
UNO wins 3-2
Saturday
Minnesota wins 3-2

Not too bad splitting against the #3 team in the country in their own barn!

UNO still 4th in the WCHA with 2 games in hand on the top 3!

I thought with a 7 game winnings streak and a split weekend with #3 Minnesota in Mariucci Arena, they would have moved up a couple spots.

Hope they have a great weekend up in St Cloud.

UNO splits the Weekend with a 5-1 win tonight!

Weekend goal totals were 8-7 with UNO leading, meaning the Spirit of the Maverick Trophy stays in Omaha!

Very classy handshakes by both teams coaches after the game!  Lots of respect!

UNO plays Colorado College this weekend with two things to note:

NBC's Doc Emrick will be calling the game on Friday night (6:30 pm faceoff) on NBC Sports Network.
A UNO win and a tie will move UNO into a tie for first place in the WCHA; a sweep gives the Mavs sole possession of first place.  It's a light weekend of conference play, and UNO is one series behind everybody else ahead of them in the standings.

Not what I was hoping for this weekend...  UNO came away with 1 of 4 possible points.

Lost Friday
Tie Saturday

Just seemed like every time they scored, Denver answered right back.

The wheels fell off the bus about six weeks ago when our goalies fell apart and the coaches couldn't get them back.   Add to that, the recurrent problem with the mid ice transitions and remarkably bad powerplay performance, and you dont get home ice.    Suspect Blais has taken this team as far as he can.
