Husker Baseball 2013

Post by Huskerbaseball13 »

A little over 2 months until Baseball season starts.  Erstad put together one of the best non-conference schedules in the Nation this year.  While some said it could not be done and that "nobody" would want to play Nebraska anymore because of the move to the Big 10..... it only took Erstad two years to put together a great schedule with the likes of Fullerton, Texas, and Arkansas as the big names.  If Nebraska fails to win the Big 10 this should put them in the position for an at-large.  Nebraska will once again be able to hit the ball this year but the year will hinge on the pitching staff.  In Silva's second year I expect to see some major improvements from the staff.  Erstad and company are still in the process of upgrading the talent level of the program....and they have had zero problem doing so.  The staff has been on a tear on the recruiting trail locking down the best players in the state and some of the best recruits in the region.

Tough start on the road coming home to Lincoln with 0 wins to start the season.  The Huskers got their first win on Saturday with the Home opener over New Mexico.  Here are a few pictures I took.

I would guess that is a finsihed product but who knows?  They might be a bit higher than they first aprear too if you look at some things with known dimensions.

Stadium lights aren't simply a million lumens on a stick anymore and I doubt they will do anything further with their physical position. After they finish aiming the lights I'm sure you won't be able to make giant shadow puppets on the field from the top row.

Also, as an afterthought, those may be the most popular seats in the house come November. Could be warm under those lights!

Big 10 home opener tonight and the Huskers beat Northwestern. 16 innings and 5:20 in time and the winning run crosses with two outs in the 16th.  Final. 10-9.  Nice gritty win

Nice road sweep for NU, plus we have 4 Big 10 teams in the top 38 of the RPI, including NU.

Nice to see NU hang on.  NU going into the game was #30 in RPI due to the schedule they played this year.

Last Home game for the 2013 Husker Baseball team.  Not the outcome that was hoped for with the loss to Michagan but it was Senior day so thanks to the Seniors who were playing their last game at Haymarket Park

Pretty much a microcosm of this season, extremely inconsistent and confusing.

From what I have been hearing, if Nebraska had been .500 (one more win) NU would have made the Regionals...
With that said, Coach Erstad will still book a non-conference schedule like this year's.
Should a 'northern' school have such a schedule like this against teams that have an earlier weather start?

I am sure with one more win to be at or better than .500 they would have been in.  Everything else had them in and mostly likly would have been a three seed if not they were closer to a two than a four in the four team regionals.

I understand some people not liking the schedualing that DE did but I like it.  There were plenty of games that we let get away.  It was not just the end of the season where we needed one more.  Any game or three along the way would ahve made the diffforence.  Watching this team and attending most home games I see a team grwoing up again like they did 10 or so years ago.  THe deck is stacked difforent now in the Big 10 but I beleive they will get it done.

It was hard being so close this year but I love the schedule he put together this year.  The Big 10 is getting better in baseball and committing resources to it, but I think we still need to play a tough non-conference schedule going forward.
