Creighton survives and advances. If they would have made some of those early free throws, I think the game may have been out of reach earlier. Only 11-21 from the foul line. This is the game you could afford to shoot that poorly there though. They are going to need those the rest of the way. I thought that Chatman played an amazing game...probably one of the best he has had. (16 pts, 5 rebs, and 6 assts). Obviously Dougie did it again and had a monster first half.

Good win by Creighton. Nothing against the Huskers, but Creighton's offense is just so much more fluid and competent and easier to watch than Nebraska's. Creighton is just a far more polished team than Nebraska, and was refreshing to watch after cringing through the entire Nebraska game.

That said, Creighton is good, but they are damn lucky to have not faced Wichita State this year. Anyone else watching their defensive clinic right now?

Lets be honest, WSU is playing a high school team. Let's not call it a clinic.

I am going to agree with the coach

"We got away with one today," McDermott said. "We have a veteran team and showed that down the stretch."

Sunday could be a lot rougher

Pretty sure these "high school teams" played toe-to-toe with Creighton, Duke, Kansas, Arizona, Ohio St, and Florida.

Creighton will probably have to shoot 50% or more from 3 to make up for a non-existent game in the frontcourt.

Cal Poly went 14 and 19 this year.
And many of the other 14,15,16 seeds weren't exactly barnburners, either.

LA was actually 23-11 prior to playing Creighton. Mercer was 26-8 prior to Duke. E Kentucky 24-9 prior to Kansas. Dayton 23-10 prior to Ohio St.

I'd be more willing to chalk the decisive win up as simply CalPoly being terrible, if Wich St hadn't been doing this all year. Regardless, I firmly believe there isn't a single team in this tournament that they couldn't beat on any normal given day. And while Creighton is good, Wich St wins 7 out of 10 games with Creighton.

Wouldn't happen this year or last. Don't forget Creighton beat them 2 out of 3 times last year and Creighton has many more quality wins vs top 50 teams this year. Granted, Wichita hasn't lost, but I am still not convinced they are a top 5 team. They are very, very good, but only time will tell if they can hang with really good teams.

Nice start. One win and done again?

Creighton needs more athletes for when the shots don't drop, like now. *sigh*

When someone starts the game 5-5 from downtown, you could be the Heat and still be behind.

The good news: It's just that Creighton doesn't match up well with Baylor's tall, athletic players.

The bad news: It's division 1 college basketball. All the good teams have tall, athletic players.

And it doesn't help that Baylor can't miss.

We'll miss Doug, of course, but Gibbs and the rest of the Hot or Nots? Not so sure.

Time will tell in 2 years how the recruits pan out. There is some tremendous promise coming in, and if ome can't see that they're possibly blind.

It is. Lead official is that dipsh*t Karl Hess. He's a legendary terrible ref.

Who coming in can match up with Baylor's athletes?

Jesus Christ, Santa Claus, and Vishnu. Getting Vishnu was a real coup since it's a Jesuit university and all. He/she really signed for the new training facilities.

Two 6' 7" wing players that are athletes. Still they are freshmen which means we don't know. Coach Mac is going after athletes for sure though.

Yeah, I'd hope he's getting with the times and putting together some recruiting classes with some players who can touch the rim. This is thoroughly embarrassing.

Or at least aren't afraid of getting within 3 feet of that rim. We can work up to touching, right now we need to make baby steps.

I will take a quote from you -- I think it's safe to say, Villanova does not match up favorably against Creighton.

And change it

I think it's safe to say, Creighton does not match up favorably against Baylor.

It was a great season for Creighton and McDermott -- they ran out of steam and teams figured them out.

Well as it turns out neither Creighton nor Wichita St could hang with the good teams. They both lost and fell short of a Sweet 16 birth. For Wichita, I kinda felt this was going to happen, but for the Jays, this was their best chance to reach the Sweet 16.

Well, it didn't really turn out that way. :) Turns out, Wichita St did in fact "hang" with arguably the most talented and athletic team in the country, full of blue chip recruits and future NBA drafts. Kentucky finished their season strong and is as good as anyone right now.

Wichita took them to the last shot.

absolutely.

The question is, does Creighton continue to put together teams that confuse and out-shoot the teams in their conference early on, or do they put together a team that can hang with the big boys, and doesn't peak mid-season?

I feel terrible for those seniors, but this is an opportunity for Creighton to take the program to another level.

They were so terrible within feet of the rim last night I was begging for them to keep Brooks in. I think I saw close to zero drives to the basket.
