Looks like Creighton is looking at JUCOs to compete in the Big East. Also looking at Desmond Lee.

That's a shame. But it's a big move and not for everyone.

Nevin wasn't seeing much time on the court anyways, even with the large blowouts of the Non-conference schedule. That MAY point to how things were going with him. It's probably best for all parties involved.

But that's all speculation on my part.

Creighton star McDermott will return for senior season
Sports Illustrated wrote:"Just being a college kid another year and playing with my best friends and joining the Big East," he said. "It couldn't get much better. I went with my heart, my gut. Whenever I've done that in the past, it's always worked out. I'm confident this is the best decision."

McDermott is such an unselfish player and individual.  He was quoted saying that he owes it to Creighton and Omaha to come back.  The way I look at it, he doesn't owe us anything, but I like many others are extremely excited to get to witness him continue playing at the Century Link Center.

While McDermott was being interviewed on Unsportsmanlike Conduct Grant Gibbs called in. He said they have retained a law firm that specializes with players who want a medical waiver to play a fifth or in his case sixth year. He said if their report comes back around fifty percent, they will send his paperwork into the NCAA.

Good question. Couldn't find any news since 4/29 when he said he was letting a law firm check out the probability of acceptance. Not sure what he heard.

Saw a Facebook group talking recently about him getting an extra year due to medical reasons... mentioned something about hiring lawyers to try I believe.

Still no word on Gibbs
Steven Pivovar / World-Herald staff writer on June 18 wrote:Creighton officials had hoped to hear by the end of May whether Gibbs, a starter for the past two seasons, would receive the waiver that would give him an additional year of eligibility.

Gibbs said it was his understanding that the process has been delayed because additional information was needed regarding his medical history at Gonzaga.

“They said it could be potentially another week before we hear anything,” he said.

NBC Sports wrote:Greg McDermott was hired as the Creighton men’s basketball coach in April 2010. After serving as an employee for three years, he only has to pay half of the annual $34,000 tuition, according to the school’s Tuition Remission Benefit.
So it only costs the Coach $17,000 to get Gibbs back (Provided all scholarship Athletes report to camp).   :P

It now looks like Coach McDermott needed to be employed one more year to get the teacher discount privilege, so he will have to cough up the $35,000 - $40,000 tuition for Doug after all.

From ESPN:
Creighton: The Bluejays have a lot to sell. They average more than 17,000 fans for home games, they play in a beautiful arena and Omaha, Neb., is a highly underrated city. Being in one of the nation's top basketball conferences, though, should take Creighton's recruiting efforts to a whole new level and open some doors that would have otherwise been closed for coach Greg McDermott. The move should obviously help Creighton financially as well.

Trip to Vegas pays off for McDermott
Steven Pivovar: World-Herald staff writer wrote:The Creighton forward held his own during his three-day stay at the United States national team's minicamp. McDermott and Oklahoma State sophomore Marcus Smart were the only collegiate players among the 30 that participated in the camp at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

“We didn't talk about the Duke-Creighton game at all,” McDermott said. “Coach K came up to me when we were done and told me that he really appreciated me coming. He told me I needed to take some time off , but he really appreciated that I came out here.”
No wonder he was not at the Blue/White game tonight. Kept looking for him...

Dear BIG EAST Supporters:

We are excited to report that #The1isHere!

At 6 AM EST this morning, FOX Sports 1 – the official home of the BIG EAST Conference – launched in approximately 90 million homes throughout the United States.  FOX Sports 1 is the nation’s newest and most innovative 24-hour multi-sport channel, and this represents the largest sports network launch in history.

FOX has come a long way since March of this year, when we gathered in FOX's studios in New York City to announce an unprecedented multi-media partnership between the network and the BIG EAST conference.  The alliance between FOX Sports and the BIG EAST was a natural, given our shared passion for college basketball and our mutual desire to produce live sports programming that provides high-quality entertainment and puts the fans first.

From the first practices through the regular season and culminating with the nation’s most compelling conference basketball tournament, held each March in Madison Square Garden, FOX Sports 1 will showcase the high level of competition and the intense rivalries that have long defined BIG EAST basketball.   Led by the legendary announcing team of Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery, who has been calling BIG EAST games for over 30 years, FOX Sports 1 is slated to televise more than 100 BIG EAST men’s regular season games this coming season, beginning with non-conference play on Friday, November 8.

Stay tuned for upcoming announcements about the full television schedule for the BIG EAST on FOX Sports 1, which includes a previously announced, five-game New Year’s Eve marathon, and a SUPER SATURDAY HOOPS doubleheader on Saturday, February 1, featuring Marquette vs. St. John’s and Michigan State vs. Georgetown, live from Madison Square Garden on the eve of Super Bowl XLVIII.   In the meantime, be sure to check out FOX Sports 1, which will air nearly 5,000 hours of live sports, news and original programming annually.  For many TV providers, FOX Sports 1 can be found on the same channel that had been occupied by SPEED.  To locate the specific channel information for your TV provider, go to http://www.FOXSports.com.  If your cable system does not currently offer FOX Sports 1, we encourage you to call and let them know you want it included in your basic package.

The BIG EAST and FOX Sports 1 are the ones for fun.  Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,

Val Ackerman                                                  Randy Freer

BIG EAST Commissioner                               FOX Sports Co-President and COO

I am actually completely upset off they are doing it on NYE.  I am about 99.9999% sure I can't go to this game.  Why can't they do it the next day or any other day.  Why does it need to be NYE?
