Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
Worst half of the season....Jays only scored 17 and they avg 80 per game. No other starter besides McDermott has scored. Got to get it going early in the second half.
Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
It might be me but I couldn't believe the refing the last 5 minutes of the first half.. probably accounted for 6 points for the Friars.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
I would agree with that. I have counted at least two fouls in the first half where Creighton didn't make any contact yet the foul was called including one on a 3. I just wish that Creighton could catch a break on the officiating. It seems that is has been this way this whole tournament but in the other 2 games the Jays were hitting shots.guitarguy wrote:It might be me but I couldn't believe the refing the last 5 minutes of the first half.. probably accounted for 6 points for the Friars.
Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
The ref'ing sure seems a bit lopsided tonight, but man, this Creighton team just flat out sucks tonight. 2 fouls on 3 point shots? Oh yeah, and brooks is a train wreck in shoes.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
Brooks is fast and all, but his basketball sense is lacking entirely. The team is shooting like |expletive|, and it isn't on the refs for that.
These types of games are the reason I say Creighton is one and done...again...in the tourney.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
Actually if you were watching the game, Brooks is playing pretty well tonight overall. He has brought a spark and gotten to the foul line and hit the free throws....something no one else has done tonight. He has 4 pts, 2rbs and 2 assts in limited action. Yes he does have 2 turnovers, but overall he is playing ok.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
Dingman is playing very well....10 pts and 4 rebs. Gibbs and Wragge are really killing us tonight.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
I wouldn't classify that as playing pretty well, but to each their own. That said, you are correct in saying Wragge and Gibbs are liabilities in the worst sense tonight.skinzfan23 wrote:Actually if you were watching the game, Brooks is playing pretty well tonight overall. But..surprisingly the game is close right now. Although I have that un-fun feeling that Prov is going to pull away here soon like a few other Creighton losses this year.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
Brooks was out of control the entire first half.
That said, in the last ten minutes, Creighton is getting |expletive| hosed by the refs when rebounding. Providence is getting away with just about anything on their offensive boards.

Everything needs to go through McDermott these last 5 min. He is the best player in America and deserves this. If we lose going through him at least we tried.

Huge 3 by Gibbs, finally something positive from him. Artino needs to stay on the floor. Much, much better D than Wragge.

The fact it is remaining this close this late is a testament to Doug. Never will see another like him.

Maybe he WILL hit up the charts to #4.
If they can come back and win this, I'll gladly take back my "one win and done" statement in the tourney.

McDermott is truly amazing....never have seen a player like him at the college level.
Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
Would have been nice is someone else stepped up besides just Doug.

Bummer. Too bad none of the rest of the team showed up.

And I think it might be sinking in to Greg that its going to be a while before Creighton has the players to win the conference. A long while...

McDermott just passed 3,100 points with tonight's game. (3,105) He needs 61 more to move into 4th place.
Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
If they can win the first round, he really has a good shot.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
I give it 3 years before contention happens again. They'll have a new practice facility, have a history of tourney appearances, a beautiful arena, and a strong fanbase. The only thing that was ever keeping Creighton back in recruiting was playing in the Mo Valley, now that they are in the Semi-Big East they do not have that limitation.S33 wrote:And I think it might be sinking in to Greg that its going to be a while before Creighton has the players to win the conference. And if Greg can't get it done in time, Creighton has the resources to bring someone in who can.

The two new recruits they have for next year, bring some much needed athleticism. Ronnie Harrell and Leon Gilmore.

Ed Cooley with a master stroke of coaching tonight. Fantastic game plan, CU never figured out the zone.

Good call...a lot of people don't know about him, but I think he will be a nice little addition. Similar to Doug, obviously not as good as Doug but same style of play.MadMartin8 wrote:skinzfan23 wrote:The two new recruits they have for next year, bring some much needed athleticism. He doesn't have the outside game, but Hanson near the rim is very McDermottesque.skinzfan23 wrote:Good call...a lot of people don't know about him, but I think he will be a nice little addition. Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
I like having the inside game better than be dependent the 3 game (I'd prefer to have both, but yeah). I think it's a higher percentage chance to be honest.iamjacobm wrote: He doesn't have the outside game, but Hanson near the rim is very McDermottesque.

Let's hope that this doesn't give the next team a 'blueprint ' on how to beat Creighton. Watching the end of the game it did t seem like anyone wanted to shoot.
As for next season, I have been telling people for awhile it is going to be a long year for Creighton.
Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
You need to hit your threes to break apart the zone. Creighton had many looks but couldn't hit on most of them.
It'll be interesting to see where they end up tonight.

If Creighton is a 5 seed they would have royally screwed Creighton...they should be a 3 seed but no lower than a 4

Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
This will be a test as to how the new BEast is perceived by others. Will Nova get a 1 or a 2? Will Providence be higher than a 12? Is Xavier one of the play-in teams. Creighton would have been a 2 seed if they won, other teams are not falling after their loses, but a few teams had good wins behind us. Are they really going to look at the year as a whole and not the final two weeks of the season.
Re: Creighton Basketball 2013-2014
I've been reading that the selection committee no longer factors losses at the end of the regular season against the teams.
