UNO kicked off their 2013-2014 Season last night with a 6-1 win over the Ooks in an exhibition game.

#23 Johnnie Searfoss had a Hat-Trick, with the third Goal being an awesome 1 timer.
UNO played three different goaltenders, only the freshman in the third giving up a goal.
New Scoreboard was great.
The team looked fairly sharp, there was a few missed passed, but its early.

The Mavs return to the Ice this Friday (7:37pm) and Saturday (7:07pm) at Century Link Center Omaha.

I am assuming you were there....how was the attendance?

I have a good friend coming to Omaha for the first time this weekend and I am trying to figure out if I should take him to the UNO game since it is at the nicer arena (but not always the best experience since the arena isn't packed) or if I should take him to the Lancer game, which probably has fewer people at but a greater % of seats filled. I want him to have a great impression of Omaha. What are your thoughts?

Its October Hockey...  Its not going to be even close to full.  If you want to give them a good impression of Omaha.  Go out to eat downtown and then walk over to the Century Link Center.

UNO got a split this weekend.   They dropped Friday night 6-4.  They were actually down 5-2 and got a couple in the third and it was 5-4.  They had a couple chances to tie it late before giving up an empty net goal.  Saturday they got on the board with 0.2 seconds left in the first. And need up getting an empty net late and winning 4-1.

It was a good weekend, the young guys played well and hopefully this team is only going to get better with experience.

Hope so but they are down 4-2 tonight in the second intermission.  Way too many penalties this weekend.  UNO also went scoreless on both 5 on 3 opportunities tonight.

UNO lost 6 to 3, and dropped to 2-2 on the year.  The penalties killed them.  Gave up 4 power play goals tonight.  Also have up and empty net at the end.

UNO returns home this weekend.

A - Its Early
B - Young Team
C - They lost their Captain in the off season
D - Not stand out goaltender yet
E - Coach Blais really seems to focus on the conference season.

Give me a couple conference weekends and then I will decide.

UNO is not ranked in either poll this week, but receiving votes in one of them.

However, in the NCHA standings they are in a 3 way tie for Second Place and only 2 points behind first place St Cloud State.

Hopefully they can get on a roll these final 10 games!

Friday’s game begins at 7:37 p.m., and Saturday’s game starts at 7:07 p.m. It’s the Mavericks’ first trip to Grand Forks, N.D. since December of 2011.

The Teams
The Mavericks are 10-12-2 overall and 7-5-2-1 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, putting them in a tie with North Dakota and Denver for second place. The Mavericks are coming off a 5-3 loss and an 8-6 win against St. Cloud State last weekend at home. The Mavs are 4-4-2 on the road this year. They trail the all-time series with UND, 4-6-0, a ledger that includes a split of two games in Omaha in November. The Mavericks are 2-2-0 all-time at the Ralph.

North Dakota is 13-8-5 overall and 8-6-0-0 in the NCHC. UND hasn’t played since splitting a series at Denver on Jan. 24-25, winning 4-2 the first night before dropping a 3-0 decision the following night. North Dakota is 8-4-1 at home this season and 8-1-1 in its last 10 games.

Perfect example of what separates hockey players from the rest. After getting his ankle broke on one shot, he tried to get up and block another one:
