Lancers Outscore Opponents 9-0 In Season-Opening Weekend

It would be difficult to imagine a better start to season 28 in the United States Hockey League (USHL) than the Omaha Lancers experienced on Friday and Saturday night in a pair of shutout victories over Western Conference foes. On Friday, the Lancers impressed in a 5-0 shutout victory over the defending Western Conference playoff champions, the Fargo Force, and on Saturday, Omaha's hot hand held up, as the Lancers completely overwhelmed the Des Moines Buccaneers in a 4-0 road win. At 2-0-0, the Lancers currently sit alone in second place in the USHL's Western Conference standings.

USHL Honors - Goaltender of the Week

Cole Bruns, G, Omaha Lancers: The goaltender kicked off the 2013-14 season for the Lancers with back-to-back shutouts over the weekend.  On Friday, the 19-year-old turned aside all 17 shots he faced to take down the Fargo Force, 5-0, in the team’s home opener.  He followed that up with a 19-save performance on Saturday, backstopping the Lancers to a 4-0 win on the road against the Des Moines Buccaneers. The Prairie Grove, Illinois had recorded one shutout in 21 previous USHL games and the first Lancers goaltender to post shutouts in consecutive starts since Alex Lyon did so in October 2011.  Bruns posted an 8-8-0 recorded last year with a 2.81 GAA and .904 SV%.

Lancers Set USHL Record with Fourth Straight Shutout

In their second straight clash versus the defending regular season Western Conference champion Sioux Falls Stampede, the Omaha Lancers gutted out a tight-checking 2-0 win on Friday at Ralston Arena, the team's fourth consecutive shutout victory to start their 28th season in the United States Hockey League (USHL), a new all-time league record for consecutive shutouts. With the victory, the Lancers improved to 4-0-0 on the season and with eight points, currently sit tied atop the USHL's Western Conference standings.

BRUNS' HISTORIC SHUTOUT STREAK CONTINUES IN 7-0 LANCERS WIN

In the tail end of a two-game weekend homestand, the Omaha Lancers systematically dismantled the Des Moines Buccaneers 7-0 at Ralston Arena on Saturday behind a 28 save performance from Lancers goaltender Cole Bruns, the Prairie Grove, Illinois native's all-time USHL record fifth consecutive shutout to start the season. With the win, the Lancers improved 5-0-0 to start the 2013-14 United States Hockey League (USHL) campaign and with 10 points remain tied with the Sioux Falls Stampede atop the USHL's Western Conference standings.

Bruns, now the sole owner of the longest individual shutout streak (300:00 consecutive minutes and 117 consecutive shots faced) in the 66-year history of the USHL, was phenomenal again Saturday, making challenging Des Moines offerings appear mundane while displaying a veteran calm that no doubt inspired his team to keep the as-yet uncommitted netminder's historic streak alive.

USHL Honors - Week Four

The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the fourth week of the 2013-14 USHL regular season.

The Omaha Lancers earned a clean sweep of the USHL Weekly awards as Tyler Vesel was named CCM Forward of the Week, Matt Nelson was selected as CCM Defenseman of the Week, and Cole Bruns earned Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

USHL goalie starts season on record-setting five-game shutout streak

The longest shutout streak in the NHL belongs to Alec Connell way back when in 1927-28 when he had 461 minutes and 29 seconds between pucks in the back of his net. Obviously you're talking about apples to oranges in more ways than one with that comparison, but it gives you some kind of frame of reference of how impressive the 300-minute streak already is.

LANCERS ACQUIRE SNUGGERUD, SPINNER IN DEAL WITH MUSKEGON

RALSTON, NE – In a trade with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, the Omaha Lancers acquired a pair of Nebraska-Omaha recruits, defenseman Luc Snuggerud and forward Steven Spinner, in exchange for one first round selection in the 2014 USHL Phase I Draft, the team announced Monday. Both Eden Prairie, Minnesota natives, Snuggerud and Spinner are ranked #61 and #70 respectively, in the NHL Central Scouting Service’s 2014 mid-season rankings of North American skaters.

“We’re extremely pleased to make this addition to our roster,” said Lancers Head Coach and General Manager Brian Kaufman on Monday. “Both Luc and Steven are promising young players that we believe will be able to contribute in this league.”

In the Western Conference Semi Finals, Sioux City leads the Lancers 2 games to Zero in the Best of 5 series.

Lancer need to win three in a row to move on to the next round. The next games are Friday and Saturday in Sioux City, next Tuesday (week from tomorrow) in Omaha if needed.
