I bet it is...I remember reading earlier that there were around 6,000 all-session tickets sold.iamjacobm wrote:That has to be tickets sold.
Either way almost to 30,000 with two days to go. Could possibly finish with 40-45,000 total, which would be almost 4 times more than the previous record.

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Looks like another huge crowd there today. I would guess 12-14,000. And the Huskers are up 6-0 and probably headed to tomorrow's championship game.

Kubat pitched 8.2, almost a complete game shutout! but the bullpen is well rested for tomorrow's Championship game.

And while the home crowd does give the Huskers a clear advantage, you wonder: Wouldn't a player from an opposing team just as soon play a baseball game in front of 12,000 people, even if they're rooting against them, over 120 people?
Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
I think an Indy Omaha rotation would be fair. Indy has got a growing fan base in IU to draw from and a nice DT stadium to use. Omaha obviously supports college sports as well as anyone.
As for this year MSU would obviously be easier, but IU vs Nebraska in front of a big crowd would be really good for B1G baseball. Plus they didn't get to play all year.

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
The early season head scratching seems to be smoothing out quite a bit.. At this point I'm indeed impressed with Coach Erstad. I have seen a killer instinct this year that's been sadly missing these last few years. Hoping Erstad continues to develop the Husker Baseball team going forward.
Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Its things like this that makes me hope Omaha will never turn professional. We have such a great college backing here and that is what makes us such a great place to host things like this.Coyote wrote:Day 1: 10,424

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Truly amazing numbers. I think we all knew it was probably going to break Columbus' record, but the attendance is over 3 times more already and another Husker game upcoming. Great showing for the Huskers and the city of Omaha.
Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
It will be funny to see it go to Target Field next year... attendance dwindle back into the few thousand, at most (some guy on the Big Ten network facebook page posted "Next year it will be at a real MLB park."
Shoot for the Moon... if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Pretty impressive attendance numbers. That is over 5x more than the previous Big 10 Tournament record.

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Sinclair loses the perfect game after 14 batters with a 4 pitch walk, but still has a no hitter bottom of the 5th.
NU only has three singles, needs some offense.

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Thats just sad lol.. do like the way the program is heading though!
Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Rough way to finish the season. That being said love the trajectory of the program. Lots of people questioned the Erstad higher and baseball in the Big 10. Erstad definitely seems to have a great blueprint.

Future B1G Maryland ousts S. Carolina for their first Super Regional Appearance in school history.
Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Nice to see Maryland playing well. Hopefully with the Big 10 money coming in, they can keep this going and invest more in football. With basketball they make the very strong Big 10 even stronger.

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Kyle Peterson just said on 1620 that S Carolina was the best team to go down yesterday now that they are healthy. That they had not lost a home post season game since the 70's. And... Maryland just blew them out.

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
That really isn't applicable to baseball. Few good players make it to their senior year, heck good players don't even make it to college these days... If the University is willing to invest in the program might be a better question, which I couldn't answer right now...MadMartin8 wrote:Is Maryland loaded with seniors? Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Ah, makes sense, forgive my ignorance on that. Admittedly I do not follow baseball, and only do so as a casual observer. Good to know, so thanks!Coyote wrote:That really isn't applicable to baseball. And with Maryland's finances being eased by Big 10 money, i'd imagine we'd see an uptick with their Athletic Department?

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
Not only joining the B1G, but with Delaney wanting to establish a big footprint on the East Coast, holding their 2017 basketball tournament in Maryland's viewing area, you know they will be helping the Terps.
Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
A top 3 of IU, Maryland and NU isn't a terrible conference. Certainly better than they were a few years ago. And really Illinois isn't too far off, they went down to Florida and beat the Gators twice this season. MSU, Michigan and OSU are good enough for a northern conference and Rutgers did decent in a pretty good AAC conference this past season. The programs killing the conference right now are NW, PSU and Iowa. Those are just RPI anchors.

Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
It just befuddles me how a conference with the footprint of the Big 10 could be as troubled (perhaps that's too strong of a word there) as they are in baseball. I suppose the warmer climates win out for the younger kids, but once they reach the MLB there are quite a few "cold" weather locales...iamjacobm wrote:A top 3 of IU, Maryland and NU isn't a terrible conference. Re: 2014 Husker Baseball
And that is why Nebraska has to have a good Pre Conference schedule. Playing the likes of Oregon State, UC Irvine, Washington, go out to Fullerton for four last year... and as you say Illinois going south helped to keep them in the conversation.
