Nebraska Basketball 2013-2014

Post by nebugeater »

First week of B1G honers and the Huskers very own Shavon Shileds pulls in Big Ten Men's player of the week.  I watched him last season and in one game so far this year and the exabition game.  He seems to be improving and to me his upside looks like it is sky high.  Will be fun to watch him develop along with this team

http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-baskbl/s ... 13aaa.html

Nov. 11, 2013

Player of the Week
Shavon Shields, Nebraska
G - So. - 6-7 - Olathe, Kan. - Northwest

• Scored a game-high 28 points in Nebraska's 79-55 season-opening win over 2013 Sweet 16 participant Florida Gulf Coast
• Shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field and was 12-for-12 from the free throw line
• Pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists against zero turnovers in 35 minutes
• His 28 points were the most by a Big Ten player during the opening weekend of the season and the most for a Nebraska player in a season opener since 2008
• Earns his first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor
• Last Nebraska Player of the Week: Andre Almeida (Dec. 3, 2012)

Big one for UNL tonight.  Miami isn't nearly as good as they were last year, but it would still be a nice feather in the cap for Miles and give the team some confidence going into the big game on Sunday.

Still, for the ACC vs B1G matchup - I wonder what this says about the outside views on Nebraska this year...

With Wisconsin and Ohio St winning their ACC B1G Challenge it is now tied 4-4. With Northwestern behind NC St,
MSU will take on North Car., Purdue will take on BC, the Miami vs NU game might make a real difference...

Left at the half to go to work, just checked the stats and the Huskers cut the lead considerably. Did Creighton play the cheer squad or what?

Actually CU played their starters pretty long tonight.  They went a few levels down in effort though.

They were taking the shot clock down on every possession, never really had any set plays.

Wow. From one of the biggest wins to one of the worst losses. PSU didn't score for 9 minutes, yet NU couldn't pull away. They threw this game away.

Actually... The OSU game is the last time NU students will be allowed to storm the Pinnacle. Officials said it is too hard on the court

I never realized people were "allowed" to storm the court in the first place. Unless there is a high fence, I don't think they'll manage keep UNL Students off the court, it's their second home.

Unless they have armed guards..now that'd be a sight to see.

We'll having Been at that game they defiantly let them this time. Many students were lining up with A couple of min left in the corners. There were police and arena people in the way until right at game end. They even apeRed to be directing the students on whee to wait and where to go.

Nice win by Nebraska over Minnesota. I didn't get the number, but it was the second largest attendance at the PBA.

Would have been nice if they could have come away with a win at hapless Penn State... but if they can pick up a few more wins out of the remaining schedule, maybe get to 19, get an NIT bid... I'd be happy with the progress. This is still a young team.

Well yeah, that too... no one has played Michigan closer in conference, although I'm guessing they'll be looking to take it out on us when we travel up there.

I was ready to give up on Nebraska when they got stuck on 16 and fell 13 behind, but they came storming back to win 60-55. It sounded like the crowd finally picked them up with their run in the second half. Their first back to back conference win in years!

I watched the last 10 mins of the Husker game tonight and thought they played better than I've seen them play in a long long time. Petaway is the real deal and is the first baller the Huskers have had in as long as I can remember!

Also the new PBA sounded loud and proud tonight! Looks like I might have to catch a game down there sometime to check it out!

I was there last night and the second half was as load as I have remembered in a long time. First half, not so much. This team is learning and getting better. I think Biggs not being there will be better in the long run. He dribbeled the ball around way too much without ever doing anything with it.

Down 16 and the teams form the last few years would have let that slide to 25 or more before it was done. They never quit. Player for Indiana wearing #1 was crying to the reffs all night. See it happen from players but usually not like this. The Ind. head coach did his share too.

Anounced attendance at the end of the game was 15,333 Looked to be about right.

No, that was Pettewy. Biggs has been missing meetings, after getting (I think) a DUI.

Biggs tended to just dribble all over the court without rhyme or reason, killing the shot clock before calling a set play. Hard to lose a scholarship player at this stage of the season, but maybe it is for the better of their game, and for the locker room.
