Here is to both NU and CU in their tourneys and to our beloved Mavs as they embark on a march to the NCHC post season tournament championship.

May they all drink the blood of their enemies that lay crushed beneath their feet (or something to that effect...) :thumb:

I agree that they should not get in. They have lost 6 of their last 7 and their non-conference SOS is terrible. Their only good wins were Michigan and Ohio St (although Ohio st is barely ranked and is struggling themselves)

This is unlikely. Everywhere I have looked said they were locks regardless. The committee supposedly does not weight the last games any more than the first. When they used to consider the last 10, this could have hosed them. I have no idea what in hades has happened to this team though. Once upon a time they cracked the top 10.

Iowa is in a free fall but everything I've seen has them in. Not even hear the bubble.

Ohio State is a 5.5 point favorite over NU today.

Lunardi has Nebraska or Providence an 11 against VCU... it would seem Creighton could help out here.

Iowa fans really have a disdain for all things Nebraska... on various social media, Big 10 fans from all over the conference have been very complementary of Nebraska's success this year... but in a few cases, there are trolls posting material bashing Nebraska, and invariably, it's always someone from Iowa.

Iowa fans are desperately clinging to that 10 point, head-to-head win against Nebraska as their justification for Nebraska needing to be the team who gets the "play-in" game, all while forgetting Iowa as only won 6 of their last 15 games, while Nebraska has won 11 of their last 15, and beating two top 10 teams and a top 20 team.

In summary, Iowa fans are whiny, petulant little babies with an obvious inferiority complex.

To be fair it is SOME iowa fans. THe Iowa fans that I know well from my 10 years of living in Cedar Rapids are all complementray of the Huskers sucess this season and tell me that they feel lucky to be in with the way the season ended for them. These are true Hawkeye fans too by the way. Granted it is a small sample but they are real.

In eastern Iowa, they haven't been inundated with Husker media, fans, and all the hysteria around the super-successful 90's. I think it may be Western Iowa Hawk fans giving them all a bad name.

I lived in Eastern Iowa for 3 years (Dubuque for 2 and Cedar Rapids for 1). I couldn't believe some of the Hawkeye fans. I grew up loving the Hawks and thought their fan base was amazing. I always wanted to go to a game but didn't have many opportunities. After living in eastern Iowa, my attitude has changed. I want to note, not all Iowa fans are like this, but there are many that believe that the other teams always bring the "A" game when facing Iowa (ex. Northwestern for football). I got so sick of hearing this. I used to ask them if they ever thought Iowa just maybe wasn't good. A good friend of mine who went to Ohio State said this: "you think teams don't bring their "A" game to play Ohio St."

As for basketball, I am glad that I moved back to the Omaha area and can call myself a Creighton Bluejay fan. The Jays fans carry themselves differently than the Iowa fans. Try going to a game at Iowa vs the Centurylink Center and there is no comparison. (blue collar fans vs mostly white collar, very few concession stands and restrooms, no large center-hung videoboards, no entertainment within walking distance of Carver Hawkeye) just to name a few.

The 10 years we lived in Cedar Rapids included some time before the football NC runs. I would hear on ocasion that the Huskers "couldn't win the big one" My repaly was always you have to be IN the big one to LOOSE the Big one. that usually shut them up. Overall it was good though. I was in CR from 90 to 99.

For those band wagon fans that are just getting on board with Husker basketball Barfknecht had a good tutorial on the Huskers history in the Turny in the paper today. Take a look... it is a quick read!

http://www.omaha.com/article/20140318/H ... t-ncaa-win" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Read at the link but one interesting item that I didn't know from the end of the artical
The six teams that beat the Huskers in NCAA play? They all lost their next game, by margins of 7, 16, 23, 37, 12 and 6 points.

I am not crazy enough to think that this is not a very likly posibility. They have come further this year that anyone... probably including Miles... that they would. That being said they have a lot of motivation to play well and that includes a matchup on Sunday that I think they want. If they get it I think the Jays come out on top butit is verry likly that it is a much difforent game than the first one.

Then in CU history, for most of the years they made it to the NCAAs, CU gets to be the prison prom queen of the NCAA in the first rounds. Neither team makes it to Sunday if history tells us anything. Though I am hopeful that both teams do and we get a decisive battle to end the sports year.

It clearly showed last night that Iowa shouldn't have been in the tournament. Tennessee isn't a great team and after a terrible start to the game, they easily handled the Hawks in OT....outscored them 14-1. What a disappointment of a season for Iowa. Such high hopes entering the season after being runner-up in the NIT last year and having such a deep roster. But they had a very weak non-conference SOS and it came back to hurt them. They lost 10 of their last 15 games and finished 20-13 after a 15-3 start to the season.

Rough finish, but overall a great season. Tim Miles is the real deal.

Here's a funny article on our good friend Karl Hess from last year, from my favorite web site, Grantland:

If they fire him from Basketball, then it sounds like he could fit right in as a hockey ref in the CCHA.

I will give credit to the NU team for doing as UNO's Hockey team did, being ranked last at the beginning of the season and playing well enough to be in the hunt. Which along with a few academic all americans every now and then, is all you can ask from a team.

The sucess of the season resulted in a $250,000 bonus for Miles

$50,000 - top-four finish Big Ten regular season

They (NU) also price their upper section tickets very reasonably. It was such a good deal, several friends from Omaha bought them and now make the drive. If I was not so busy with hockey during the winter I would as well. A great deal.

Yes, that's what I saying where I put they were priced very reasonably. As was said earlier, they've been that way for quite a while. NU gets a cut of the concessions at PBA so they can afford to go cheaper per seat. I think they will increase but NU is smart enough that they won't jack them up too much.
