Dammit. Well now we've gone and done it. We got our wrestling, but the took away baseball. I'd much rather have baseball than wrestling. That's sort of like going to some larger city and saying "we're taking your MLB team, but you can have some daily WWE tournaments instead."

When was the last time the baseball tournament had a team from lincoln or "outstate" in the finals? It seems as though Omaha dominates the baseball tournament.

Let's just not even show up for the baseball tournaments. :) That'll teach 'em.

Let them have baseball for now. If Creighton/Royals build a stadium bigger and better than Haymarket Park in the Upper Market (yes that does sound better!) the baseball tourney may return to Omaha. Haymarket Park is a great little ballfield though.

Yes, the Upper Market (alright!) Creighton stadium will blow the UNL's away when they build it. When does this come up for contention with the NSAA again?

Also, what are average attendances of the state wrestling compared with state baseball? Just wondering how much we actually gained from this.

I think over all we did gain though, because Rosenblatt is not surrounded by a lot of other commercial areas (hotels, resturants, shopping) like the Qwest center is, so the indirect economic inpact will be more positive with the wrestling tournament being here than the baseball.

The state wrestling tourney is a HUGE deal. It's well attended. Frankly, I didn't even know there was a state high school baseball tourney.

This wrestling meet is a pretty cool environment, as is high school wrestling in general. A good swap, IMO.

It helps that the wrestling season is during the school year while the baseball season is mostly not.

Uh. no.

The official high school season runs during the spring. The State Tournament takes place in mid May or so.

Legion Ball (similar to AAU basketball) runs during the summer.

While I'm definitely disappointed to be losing baseball to Lincoln (especially since Omaha teams dominate in baseball) - the wrestling tourny is a great grab. The semifinals always sellout, and it's likely the finals will too, even with the 2000 extra seats.

In all fairness, Rosenblatt was WAY too big for the state tourney. They'd pull in like some 2,000 fans in a 25,000 seat venue. It really wasn't that practical. I think Haymarkett is a nice fit. Hopefully, if we get that new Creighton/Royals stadium, it will make a comeback. But the wrestling is a huge deal. Talk about moneymakers, it would pry go Football, basketball, wrestling. I mean we all know football is staying where it is, but to get one out of the two next biggest money makers is great. Hopefully we can make a run for volleyball.

By the same token, Memorial Stadium is WAY too big for the state football tourny. They get what, 6,000 in a 78,000 seat stadium?

It's about letting the kids play on the big time fields. And Rosenblatt will always mean more to baseball players than Haymarket, simply because it's the host of the CWS.

And after that expansion Memorial Stadium will be over 80,000. If they get baseball than I think we should get basketball.
