Such a great season so far. Somewhat favorable schedule to finish the year. The road trips are a little tough (Duluth will be real tough, SCSU won't be a cake walk either at home) but love our home series.

Going to be a wild finish in the NCHC.

Rumors have Arizona State joining the NCHC and possibly Notre Dame.

I would understand Notre Dame maybe, but not Arizona
State from a geographic point.

Come to think of it, I still don't understand Arizona State having a hockey team.

ASU has a successful club team and got a check for about $40 million to go D1. Hockey is really growing in the Valley.

Notre Dame would come with ASU to keep the conference with an even number of teams.

ASU would be smart to to join the NCHC for two reasons.

1. The closest D1 teams are DU, CC, and USAFA. Two of the three are in the NCHC giving them regional competitors in league play and keeping their travel budgets down. The change for the Mavs from WCHA to NCHC dropped our travel budget 90,000 dollars. If they joined the current WCHA and had to travel to Alaska and Huntsville every year, they would burn through their revenue really fast. By going NCHC, you get two games you can drive or take a quick plane ride to, and a third game (UNO) where its a short plane ride. Only Duluth would be a tough travel ticket given the decent air connections to Fargo that would get you Mankato and UND.

2. The NCHC has 5 of the top 10 teams in the US right now and is as the planners had hoped, becoming the powerhouse D1 hockey conference. This gives a new team instant legitimacy. Think of Coach Kemp at the beginning of the Mavs. He said we could join some podunk conference and beat the |expletive| out of the fighting wheezers of "Where's that? Tech" (like Creighton was doing before going to the Big East), or we could play Minnesota and get our |expletive| handed to us for a season. But come the second season, and we win a game or two against real teams, we get real notice. ASU is the kingpin of club hockey. That is basically like saying you're the best shot with a bb gun ever when you are competing with Army snipers at 1000 meters. They will have recruiting edge by having the desert. They will lose recruiting edge if they play a weak schedule and their players can't get into the NHL.

Going to a crazy wild finish in the NCHC this year.

Bad, bad weekend for UNO. Friday giving up the lead late by giving up 2 goals in 16 seconds, followed by getting shut out Saturday. Brutal.

I would love to see UNO hockey succeed, but unfortunately this seems to happen around this time every year. They still have a few games left to hopefully turn the tide back in their favor.

Mavs Tie Bulldogs, 1-1, Then Take Shootout
In a game with the atmosphere of the impending NCHC playoffs, the No. 8 Omaha hockey team earned a 1-1 tie with No. 6 Minnesota Duluth on Friday night. The Mavericks then picked an extra point with a shootout win.

The Mavericks are now 17-10-4 overall and 11-8-2-2 in the NCHC putting them in third. The Bulldogs are now 19-12-2 overall and 11-8-2-0 in the conference, good for a tie with Denver for fourth, two points behind the Mavericks.

Blais didn't really want to get in to detail about Zombo after the game Saturday, but I got the feeling he would not be back. I get a better feeling Massa would be back, but Blais doesn't really like to talk about injuries.

Harvard has a history of playing UNO hard. The guys had better have their A game or it's going to be over fast.
