Love Zombo voted as a captain. There's tons of freshmen, but a lot of really good freshmen. As always with a young team, they tend to play to their competition, so we could see a huge upside. Sadly, we could also see them just get their arses kicked all year. Hoping UNO pulls a magical season out though. I love me some hockey season.

That was a rough night. Lots of young players that haven't jelled. This could be a long year.

It was only an exhibition, its about learning. Also, UNO only started practice 3 or 4 days ago, hard to gel in that short of a time when you loose 10 players of last year's team.

UNO was only down 1-0 before the third string goalie was put in in the third period.

The bad news is that Mankato is coming to town this weekend and the should be a really good time this year.

From Monday, the real Mavs are going to have to be VASTLY better in order to not get stampeded by the purple ones.

Yeah, it could be a rough weekend...

That said, if Masa has a good game, things could be a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, I love the CenturyLink, but I was just looking at some of my old Civic Photos, and its going to be great having them in the right sized arena again. Full and loud is way better for Hockey!

Thats the same way I feel. I love the Centurylink but it will be way better to have UNO in the right sized arena, especially since its closer to campus and will hopefully have more students at it. I just love going downtown and having such a huge, beautiful arena to watch a game. We went to a game last year with a friend from out of town and he thought the arena was very nice. Unfortunately the crowd was less than spectacular. There were only 4-5,000 there and made the place feel empty. At least the arena had the new video board last year as well. I am sure the UNO arena will have nice video capibility as well but probably not quite as nice. The atmosphere is going to be great though.

Likewise... It was hard watching the Mav Maniacs (or whatever's they are) way up on the south end trying to lead cheers. I have always loved the civic for hockey, even now, for some reason as run down as it is, it's the perfect atmosphere for hockey IMHO...

Then you will like the new barn. It feels a lot like the Civic, but with an open concourse!

When Kemp was replaced by Blais, and I was still posting on Mavpuck, I said that I wanted three things from the hockey program:

1. A team that didn't get blown off the ice. That could skate with anyone in the league.
2. A team that didn't have to win every year, but had to be in the hunt most years.
3. Academic All-Americans.

We have the first two, but have not had the 3rd in a long time. With the new arena and the stable practice conditions, hopefully, this will improve.

Much better team play and coordination. Really like their offensive ring play compared to last season. More willing to shoot on goal from the blue line and the outer corners. This makes defense harder. Great game and an empty net goal!

I love the Mavs, I go to games all the time and cheer my heart out, that being said, the team is extremely young and they have done nothing the past couple of years to prove they should be ranked. They get a couple wins early and lose in February and March. And with wins over WMU, and a split at home (which we looked like two different teams each night) it's hard to argue if they're actually going to do well or not. We need to let this pan out a little I think.

Love the start. After the NAIT exhibition game, I was deeply concerned that this would be a bad season of "rebuiding". So far, this team is doing much better than I hoped for. Go Mavs!

I have heard Coach Blais mention a couple times that early season road trips are great for the team to bond together. Basically they are stuck with each other all weekend so it helps the young players get to know each other better.
