Practices put a ton of stress on fields, rip them to shreds. It would of been really expensive to maintain and get ready for baseball season next year. Anyways I forgot to post it, but they are having all their practices at Blackburn Alternative School near 24th and Hamilton.Omababe wrote:Uh, what else would they be using that stadium for?iamjacobm wrote:Surprised they are letting them practice at the stadium.

I wonder if we are attached to the wrong new football league...

The inaugural season will kick off with eight charter franchises. A strategic expansion plan has been constructed, and will be implemented to ultimately field 16 teams across the country by 2019 to provide the ultimate “fan-centric” football experience.
The NAFL’s charter franchises will be the Birmingham Freedom, Columbus Flight, Hartford Merchantmen, (Louisville) Kentucky Thoroughbreds, Memphis Kings, (Raleigh-Durham) North Carolina Redwolves, Orlando Sentinels, and (Richmond) Virginia Crusaders.
Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
No , attached to the FXFL is the right one. NAFL is another in a long list of Spring leagues that make bold claims and never deliver.
For Omaha , where would they play during in the Spring anyway?

Best options would either be Burke or Morrison Stadium.AndyG wrote:No , attached to the FXFL is the right one. NAFL is another in a long list of Spring leagues that make bold claims and never deliver.

Isnt the field at Morrison Stadium for soccer, and I didn't think they could switch a field for soccer over to football, thought it wasnt big enough but I could be wrong, anyone know for sure?

Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
If it is just practice (no Allen Iverson here) why is there a need for a regulation sized field? Didn't the Nighthawks practice at a CC in South O?
Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
They are talking about that league I linked that is playing in the Spring/Summer I think.

Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
After looking at the FXFL site about the teams, it not only lists the Florida Blacktips as just Blacktips now, but there is no home city or home stadium listed. Wonder if they just couldn't get a deal worked out in Miami or what but it seems kind of odd at this pointjag42 wrote:So, the Sked has already been modified...Omaha has 4 home games, and 1 away game. The article in the paper this weekend said that Boston is in town practicing as well. They have a lot of players from Oklahoma and Texas and it didn't make sense for the them to travel all the way to Boston and then back to Omaha in less than two weeks.

I'm a little surprised that they didn't make more of an effort to get a former Husker on the roster... or maybe they did.

Even though it is ESPN3 this is the first news that says this may work vs. the other start up's. With it on '3 the other ESPN networks will be talking about it at some level on their "news" shows.

Gotta love this news! It will take time to build this league but having espn in on it will help immensely.

Great news to hear. Much better than the arrangement the UFL had with HDNet and Vs channels.
Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
Anyone know about ticket sales? Hard getting a good measure on the select a seat option on Ticket Master. I am hoping its better than it looks because its not looking good.

Is it? Those (especially Vs) were TV. Isn't this only on-line? Not the actual ESPN TV family of networks.

Yes, I think ESPN3 is only online but it is ESPN. From what I remember the UFL was paying to have the games broadcast.

It looks like ticket sales are terrible, but something tells me the league knew what they were getting into. Omaha has been burned, so I'm guessing they knew no one would show up to the first year of games unless the league proves successful or at least the product is good. We will see, I am still hopeful.
Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
This league seems to be doing things better football wise than the Nighthawks and not so much on the ticket side/marketing side of things which could be a better business model in the long run. Show the town that this is really good football, guys right out of college looking for a shot at the league and not washed up NFLers and swing set salesman that want to relive glory days with silly rules like the UFL was.
The QBs in this league, Jenson, Jeffries and Boyd to name a few sound a lot better than Garcia, Culpepper and Crouch ever did for the UFL.

New commercial for FXFL: I like how they say 3 major cities: New York, Boston, Omaha.....great to be in a sentence with those cities.

Anyone that frequents here going to game #1 tonight? Not sounding like there is going to be much of a crowd. KFAB is reporting during their news cycles this AM that owners are saying ticket sales are not where they had hoped and they will have to work to build a fan base.

I will be there tonight for the opener. I have heard that, its safe to assume after the UFL failed midway in to the season in 2012 people are iffy right now about the FXFL
Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
It's a totally different beast. I think these guys have a clue on finances. That being said, the UFL was shooting for more of a big time feel. Name players, money on entertainment, that generated a huge buzz. It was as close to the NFL as we were going to get. This is a true development league, for guys that did not make the practice squads. A tough sell.

Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
I agree they are different then the UFL, and I like the idea of the FXFL being a developmental league more then what the UFL was going for. I just assumed that if people are iffy about the Mammoths alot of people are thinking that it failed once with the Nighthawks it will likely fail again. I hope they last longer then the Hawks and there model works, with time I bet the Mammoths fan base and turn out to games grows

Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
I would go tonight but I just feel like the ticket pricing is way to high. If they want to build a fan base that has been screwed in the past (Nighthawks) then set your ticket pricing at say $10/ticket. I seen groupon had discounted Mammoth tickets but were still to high IMO. I hope this works out since I'm a fan of football in general but cant justify spending that much to support a team that might not be around a year from now.

Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
Watching at same level on ESPN3 and Omaha is leading 14-6 as I post. Overall the Football is pretty basic but that is to be expected with the limited time for the teams to be together. The few wide shots seem to indicate that a number of the seets that show sold on the tickemaster web site are empty.
It will take time but hope it works. If I was still living in Gretna I would give it a shot

Yeah the stands do look pretty empty but Omaha is up 21-6 at half.
Re: The "Omaha Mammoths" - FXFL
Lots of recognizable names in this league! Lots of the really good college players who were either injured for the combine or were just barely not good enough to make it.
