2015 KC Royals

Post by Coyote »

We might as well start a new thread now...

it will be hard to keep Big Game James next year, the Royals would have to throw 5 years $80N at least to keep him. Will be interesting then to see the starting rotation. Will Ventura be the #1. Guthrie, Duffy... Will Finbegan become a started and spend time with the Storm Chasers to get into starting shape?

For the record Cain wasn't even a finalist because he split time in CF and RF. There is arguably not a better fielder in the game right now.

It will help too with Cain and the rest of the Royals going forward with the amount of national attention they got from the post season this year. I think Escobar is due to win. I think you will see Cain get nominated next year and win, and Moose at least get nominated.

If KC does not resign Shields, who they will make a run at but will be most likely end up somewhere like Boston, sounds like Ervin Santana is an option.

The Royals didn't exercise his 13 million option and it is reported he will sign a 3 yr 30 million deal with the A's. I do not read or hear anywhere that it is a done deal yet though.

Royals are hoping to get Sal Perez more AB's at DH. If they had kept Butler, it would not have made sense to pay what Oakland did. Happy for Billy, but will be a little rough seeing him in a different uniform. He got a good deal for himself.

I wish he would of come back to KC. The innings were really important to keep the bullpen fresh all season and his style played right into the strengths of the Royals defense.

Now since he decided elsewhere:

Shields thought he was going to get way more on the free market. Reports said his agent first dropped a 5 year $125 million value and obviously got no bites. Sounds like he had a couple 3 year ~$60 million offers out there too, shows teams are worried about his usage long term. The Padres made the best offer that the 33 year old #2 starter got, doesn't hurt his family is out in San Diego either. Going to the NL and to one of the rare ball parks that plays larger than the K will be interesting. The Padres new look roster is considerably worse in the field than the Royals.

I don't think all the moves the Padres are making are going to pay off like they expect/hope. I really don't think they are spending smart money and some of the "big name" guys they brought in just plain aren't all that good compared to what similar output you can get for way cheaper.

Good for them for trying to win for the first time in a decade, but the teams winning now a days are built through the farm and supplemented through trades/free agency. Padres setting themeless up for another decade of losing baseball IMO.

Cactus League (and Grapefruit) starts today. KC @ Texas tomorrow in Surprise...
It will be interesting to see who was called from Omaha, especially the pitchers.

Royals hit back-to-back-to-back homers
Eric Hosmer and Royals newcomers Kendrys Morales and Alex Rios hit consecutive first-inning homers, and AL champion Kansas City routed the Texas Rangers 13-2 on Wednesday in the spring training opener for both teams.

Royals are projected for a losing record according to Vegas. Not that a spring game matters but this team is better than .500 no doubt in my mind.

I think Vegas had similar numbers last year too, and I will take last year plus 90 feet.

Barring injuries, the Royals bullpen should be better this year. If Hochevar is even close to what he was a couple years ago, the back end of that bullpen is unbelievable. I love that they kept them together and added Hoch. No one thought they'd spend the money to do that. I also optimistically think Hosmer and Moose will carry their post season into this year. Cain is an emerging star. Thanks to the post season he is no longer KC's best kept secret.

You were one step ahead of me. I was following along on my phone at work. :)

We going down for the Boston series in June (Friday night is the Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle, David Koechner, Eric Stonestreet-Big Slick game, and Saturday is that killer Moose bobblehead). I know we are also going down in August for the annual Husker Night. Hoping for a few others.

I love winning on Opening Day. Because they almost always have an off day immediately following (incase Opening Day gets rained out), you get to enjoy the win for an extra day.

Yeah I missed they had all the games on. It's not the best signal but you can get most of the Royals games on at 97.3 from Blair.

And on paper anyway they should have a chance at the next three against the twins in Minn.

For some reason it seems that the Twins have always had the Royals number.

But... Great defense so far for the year, giving confidence to pitching, the best closers...
Behind the plate Perez is The Man, Cain is an All-Star, if Gordan could just start hitting...
A strong team will not have to raid its AAA, so this is boding well dor the Chasers!

I wonder if Gordon's slow start is due to him missing a bunch of Spring Training, wrist still not 100% yet, or a combo of both?

I'm sure it is both, plus the hesitancy to try out anything after an injury. Once he gets his confidence back I'm sure he will be swinging away again.

It has been great to see Orlando pick up the slack though! Gordon isn't playing day games after night games until he is back to full strength and Paulo has had a great debut for a 29 year old rookie.

I do think it is interesting that Dyson hasn't played yet. The outfield is kind of crowded now that Rios is here and is looking like an upgrade over Aoki in every facet. Don't need the defensive upgrade late in games with Rios out there.

I need to make it to a game at the K this year. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there is a series vs the Tigers (my team) that falls on a good weekend, so I may just make the journey for a random game or two. Probably more fun that way anyways.

Orlando is the first player in MLB history to record 3 triples on his first 3 MLB at bats. Nice to see the long time Chaser doing so well up there.
