KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have selected the contract of outfielder Paulo Orlando, adding him to the 40-man Major League roster.
Orlando, who turned 29 on Saturday, spent the entire 2014 season with Triple-A Omaha, batting .301 with 21 doubles, nine triples, six homers, 63 RBIs and 34 stolen bases for the Triple-A National Champions. His nine triples ranked second in the Pacific Coast League, while his 34 steals were fourth. He was selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Game this season, after batting .313 with a .432 slugging percentage and 25 steals before the break. Orlando was originally acquired by the Royals from the White Sox in 2008 after signing as a non-drafted free agent out of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

I love the billboard the Chasers put up near 72nd and I 80 every year counting down to the home opener. On weeks like this, a good reminder Spring is coming.
Martie Cordaro was on Chronicle this morning. Talked about the AAA All Star Game the Chasers are hosting this year. The total event will be four days, including the Home Run Derby and Game (which is televised nationally on the MLB network). Also mentioned they will have a free fan event as part of the festivities.
Coming off KC's world series, they are strengthening ties with the parent club. Having a KC night, with KC sending up Slugerr, the K Crew, former players and hopefully the AL Trophy from 2014. Also giving away Lorenzo Cain bobbleheads that night, featuring one of his post season catches. It is the last Wednesday in May.
If Eric Kratz makes it through waivers he may be Omaha's catcher for a while. He is coming offer of the DL (foot) and with Perez looking strong and Butera serving as backup, there may not be room on the Royals roster for the next few years...
In addition to Josh Hamilton playing against Omaha this weekend at Werner Park. Yordano Ventura will be pitching for Omaha on a rehab assignment on Friday night.
Chasers have now one 5 straight. Saw Lamb had 10 strike outs yesterday and leads the PCL in K's. Will be interesting to see if he gets to KC this year.
Who's all going to the HR Derby and All Star game next week? We are going to both.
Vargas went down in the 2nd inning. Hope the Royals don't turn around and bring Ventura right back to KC. He needs some time in AAA. I think it looks bleak now for Vargas pitching again this year. I figure Royals are now debating Ventura, Lamb or possibly Medlen for the 5th spot in the rotation.
Coyote wrote:Medlen pitched a good short relief the other day, but coming back from his second Tommy Johns, I would think they would be very cautious with him....
Yeah, that's the only thing I think holding them back on him. Blanton was solid last night but really hope he does not go back into the rotation. My preference is Lamb.
Johnny Cueto from the Reds is a popular one. Cole Hamels gets mentioned every so often, but I don't think the Royals would want to commit to his contract.
Cueto was who I was hearing about quite a bit. I wonder if they will pull a string like that. KC has the best pen and best defense, if they can get another starter....
Most talking heads are now saying with KC's lead they don't have to jump into the market for a starter just yet. In the next few weeks, with teams starting to drop out of contention, more arms will enter the market. The question now is whether KC will go after a name, or just an arm to fill the rotation. Either way, I hope the don't just get a rental, but someone with a long term commitment to the team.
And it looks like the won't have to raid Omaha's talent or give away prospects...

I really hope we don't give away too much for a rental. History shows we won't. It's funny last year KC fans were really depressed because KC did not make a move at the deadline. It turned out pretty well.
This year KC is in first amazingly enough considering all of the injuries they've had. Dayton has a history of finding under the radar guys (getting Jason Frasor during the season last year was one). Should be interesting.
